Full-length Trailer for Coen Brother's 'True Grit'

If you are like me, then the moment you heard the Coen Brothers were making a western starring an eye-patching wearing Jeff Bridges, you were immediately sold on the film.

However, some of you out there may need a bit more convincing. Even after seeing what they did with No Country For Old Men, you may still find yourself wondering if seeing The Dude do some very un-Dude-like killing is your cup of tea.

If you have been on the fence about the Coen's remake of the 1969 John Wayne film (which was based on a novel by Charles Portis) about one-eyed U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn's quest to track down the murderer of a young girl's father, the first full-length trailer has hit the Internet. While it doesn't give too much away, it certainly gives an idea of the overall look and feel of the film.

First Look: Jeff Bridges In The Coens' 'True Grit'

Jeff Bridges probably won't look to bring a lot of John Wayne to his interpretation of The Duke's Oscar-winning performance as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, but I think the weathered Bad Blake from Crazy Heart should tell you a lot about what Bridges may be up to when you look at this first official image (via Slashfilm) from Joel and Ethan Coen's repurposing of Charles Portis' novel.

Jeff Bridges Not Hopeful We'll See More 'Lebowski'

The Dude does not abide when it comes to a sequel to The Big Lebowski. It would be unusual for Joel and Ethan Coen to go down that road, anyway, but the brothers hadn't totally dismissed it in the past. It usually comes up, by the way, when John Turturro is interviewed and then the Coens have to respond.

Still, it's an iconic role for Jeff Bridges, a newly minted Oscar winner, so if it were ever going to happen, now might be the best time. Bridges presumably has more bankability than he has in many years, and he just worked with the Coens again on True Grit. So...what are the odds?

New Title, Release Date for 'Blood Simple' Remake

The upcoming Zhang Yimou remake of Joel and Ethan Coen's Blood Simple has a new title, a new release date, and a new production photo all courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics. The title is now A Woman, a Gun, and a Noodle Shop and it's coming out on September 3rd.
Click to Enlarge At one point, the movie was called The First Gun or Three Guns, and all the titles make sense when you read the synopsis. As for the remake itself, it's so far culturally removed from the Coen Bros. flick that in the hands of Zhang Yimou, one of the single best filmmakers alive, I have no worries at all.

"Wang is a gloomy and cunning noodle shop owner in a desert town in China. Feeling neglected, Wang's wife secretly goes out with Li, one of his employees. A timid man, Li reluctantly keeps the gun the landlady bought for 'killing her husband later.' Every single move they make, however, does not escape the boss's notice. Wang decides to bribe patrol officer Zhang to kill the illicit couple. It looks like a perfect plan: The affair will come to a cruel but satisfying end...or so he thinks, but the equally wicked Zhang has an agenda of his own that will lead to even more violence..."

Damon, Brolin In Talks for Coen Brothers' 'True Grit'

When the Coen Brothers go into production in March on their remake of True Grit, they'll have much bigger stars than in their current film, A Serious Man. Variety says that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in negotiations to join Jeff Bridges in the cast. Bridges is set to revive the Rooster Cogburn role that won John Wayne his only Academy Award. Doubtless, the two interpretations will be vastly different.

Damon would portray La Boeuf, a lawman who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year-old girl to track down her father's murderer. In the original film, the role was played by Glen Campbell. Brolin, who's so good as a villain, is in talks to play the killer originally brought to life by Jeff Corey. All that remains is casting Mattie, the teenage girl, and I'm not looking much further than Saoirse Ronan. I have no corroborating information on that, but who would you cast? She's already got one Oscar nomination for Atonement, her name is in the conversation this year for The Lovely Bones, and she'll turn 16 next April. I'm open to better suggestions, but I'm hard pressed to find one.
