Man Stabbed During Showing of 'Shutter Island'

Strange things happen in the dark. Witness the still-unsolved events of two weeks ago at a Cinemark theater in Lancaster, California. A man attending a screening of Shutter Island was attacked after complaining about a fellow patron using her cell phone during the movie.

Here is a summary of the incident from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, as reported in The Los Angeles Times:

"The theater was packed for a 9pm Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese horror movie when the victim complained about a woman near him who was using a cellphone during the show. She and two men with her left the movie theater. Two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim."

Christopher Nolan's Brother Held for Fraud, Murder

A bizarre story has taken shape involving Matthew Francis Nolan, the brother of Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the 40-year-old brother of the filmmaker was already under investigation for a bank fraud scheme when FBI agents arrested him in connection with a 2005 Costa Rica murder.

Prison Film Unknowingly Cast Real-Life Murderer

Here's a strange, disturbing case of art imitating life: The low-budget film, Felon, starring Val Kilmer and Steven Dorff, was casting extras for prison scenes in Albuquerque in late 2007. One of the men casting director David Córdova hired for the film was Clifton Blooomfield, who has since confessed to murdering five people in four separate crimes, two of which occurred before filming began. He continued his spree a month after working on the movie.

Bloomfield told Córdova when he auditioned that he had appeared in Breaking Bad, a cable series filmed on location in Albuquerque, as well as in the film To Live and Die. "We're expecting actors to come to our casting calls," Córdova told a local news station. "I'm not expecting the real thing to come through."

Ha! Idiot Pirates 'Love Guru,' Gets Arrested

"What are you in for?"

"I pirated The Love Guru." A conversation very much like that one is in the near future for Californian Jack Yates, arrested this past week on charges that he made an illegal copy of Mike Myers' The Love Guru - one of the worst films of 2008 - and distributed it to his friends. Wow. That's a lot of people with bad taste right there. And bad judgment.
