Danny Boyle's Wishlist for 'Trance': Scarlett Johansson & Colin Firth

Whoever Danny Boyle wants in his films he usually gets, and the payoff is often award-winning for the chosen few.  Boyle has X-Men: First Class star James McAvoy down to star in his next movie, Trance, while Michael Fassbender can almost officially be ruled out.  His replacement could come two fold with an impressive duo...

According to Twitch Film, Colin Firth has moved to the top of director's wishlist along with the lovely Scarlett Johansson, who is being courted for the female lead in Trance.  The cast for this heist thriller may get a whole lot hotter if these two sign on, literally with the addition of Johansson.

Boyle's 'Trance' Reveals Plot Details and Casting Rumors

If you didn’t already sense it by now; Danny Boyle can do pretty much anything.  And what’s next for the man who’s gone from films about drug addicts...to Indian slum-dwellers...to unfortunate hiking accidents?  Well, he’s already been tapped to direct the opening ceremony at the 2012 Olympics. But that doesn’t mean the busy guy can’t get another movie off the ground before he heads off to create an athletic song-and-dance. Why not, really?

As such, Boyle’s recently announced that he’s moving ahead with a film called Trance, which he’ll film this fall and then pump the breaks on for the Olympiad; afterwards he’ll return to complete his editing process with hopes of releasing the film by the Spring of 2013.  We’ve also heard that the delightful Michael Fassbender (that fellow who went from Inglorious Basterds to, well, everything) is in talks to star. Ace. So what’s it about?

Danny Boyle is Back to Direct 'Trance' this Fall

 

Director Danny Boyle has one impressive resume, as almost every movie he's created has either turned into Oscar gold or does reasonably well at the box office.  127 Hours, Slumdog Milionaire, Sunshine (Super underrated sci-fi flick), A Life Less Ordinary, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Millions, his body of work clearly speaks for itself. 

Despite the fact that he's currently working on Frankenstein for the stage and plans to be heavily involved with 2012 Olympics in London, Deadline has learned that Boyle will make room in his schedule to direct a small, gritty thriller called Trance.

Trailer for Danny Boyle's 'Frankenstein'

Danny Boyle's stage adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic story Frankenstein will be broadcast in select movie theaters around the world as part of the National Theatre in London's "National Theatre Live" program. To promote the event, they have released a teaser trailer.

It's a really great teaser which I think will definitely help promote the play. (It has certainly piqued my interest, at least.) With Boyle attached, it will be interesting to see how well the play's theatrical run does and if that drums up support for a possible film adaptation somewhere down the line.

Danny Boyle Confirms 'Trainspotting' Sequel

In an interview with Cinematical during his 127 Hours promo tour, director Danny Boyle had this to say when asked about the possibility of a sequel to his 1996 breakout film, Trainspotting: "It will happen, I think."

Begbie knew it'd happen all along.

Boyle went on to clarify that while he definitely thinks we'll see a Trainspotting follow-up at some point, he has no timeline set as of yet. Such a film would likely be based on Irvine Welsh's sequel to his Trainspotting novel, Porno, though it would be a looser adaptation according to Boyle. He described the latter as "not a great book in the way that Trainspotting, the original novel, is genuinely a masterpiece, I think, as a piece of writing. But we have been doing some work on it, and it's got potential, yeah, for sure. And when the moment's right, I think we will approach it."
