Aronofsky's 'Noah' Starts Shooting in July

Director Darren Aronofsky got his start with the mind-expanding low-budget art film Pi, and hasn't let mainstream success kill his creativity, with other successful artsy films like The Fountain and Black Swan.  He has something just as interesting planned up next with Noah, an epic about the biblical figure.  Aronofsky's been known for dropping projects as of late (he's been attached to both the Robocop remake and Wolverine sequel), but we've learned that the film is shooting in July. Darren Aronofsky Wants Michael Fassbender for 'Noah'

It's always wonderful to see a decidedly non-traditional director gain clout in Hollywood, as it turns what would normally be obscure passion projects into massive undertakings.  A prime example of this is Darren Aronofsky, director of unusual fair like Pi, The Fountain, and Black Swan, who has been given the greenlight to make a 130 million dollar adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah's Ark.  The actor who was previously slated to play Noah, Christian Bale, has bowed out of the production and Variety reports that Michael Fassbender is now being sought out.

Darren Aronofsky Raises Awareness For Meth Use In Disturbing Adverts

I never would have thought a commercial could scare me so much.  I'm talking about the meth commercials directed by Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream director, Darren Aronofsky.  The campaign is held by the Meth Project and their new set of ads really does the job of, not only raising awareness, but scaring the public about the dangers of methanphetamines to the users and the innocent bystanders indirectly.  Check out the rest of the ads after the jump.  They are graphic but you need to watch them.

'Robocop' Remake Won't Use Aronofsky's Script

"Dead or alive, Aronofsky's script isn't coming with me."

Not many updates out there from Jose Padilha's Robocop remake since the Brazilian director said he wanted Michael Fassbender as his Robocop/Murphy.  The studio hired writer Josh Zetumer to help develop the story, though it wasn't clear whether they'd still be working from Darren Aronofsky's script.  That mystery was revealed today, as details from an interview with Padilha a few weeks ago about the film hit the web.

We Can Only Speculate What 'Noah' Will Be Like Under Darren Aronosfky

Speculation abounds on Darren Aronofsky's next project Noah. How could someone who's made such challenging movies as Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler and Black Swan, make what would seem to be a straightforward Sunday School story. Looking at some of the past attempts at the story may provide some insight to his approach.

The 1928 silent film Noah's Ark was one of the most expensive movies of it's time. It featured portions in sound - then a revolutionary process treated as a gimmick, as 3D might said to be now. The spectacular flood sequence in the last quarter hour of the movie was notorious for the death of a few extras during it's production. The story intercuts the love triangle between three World War I era characters and the biblical story. Could Aronofsky's attempt also use a similar historical juxtaposition device to tell the tale? Interestingly, Warner Archive's Made On Demand service has just released this movie in it's shortened form sans the sound portions which are thought to be lost.
