Producer Talks About New & Improved 'Wolverine' & 'Deadpool'

Hey someone in the know is finally updating us on the delayed Wolverine sequel and Deadpool's debut movie.  While out promoting the newly released on Blu-Ray and DVD X-Men: First Class, producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked future X-Men related movies.

She first discussed how the next Wolverine installment won't be a sequel, and why the studio must wait on Hugh Jackman to finish other projects (Les Miserables) to start production.  Here's what she had to say.

"Get Your Act Together" 'Deadpool' Creator Tells Fox Studios

In this business, the creatives are usually at the mercy of the studios.  It makes sense.  They have the money, distribution, and a bunch of execs who are treated like gods in Hollywood.  But every once in a while, an actor, actress, director, or in this case a comic-book artist for Marvel comes along and tells the studio to, "find your balls".  Yeah that's exactly what he said, word for word.

That is what Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool tweeted to show his displeasure for the delays in producing the film.   He tweets,

Robert Rodriguez Replaced by Adam Berg for 'Deadpool'

If you had a choice of dropping the lead actor or the director for a Marvel superhero film, who would you drop?  Well at least we know what 20th Century Fox would do as the LA Times reports that Robert Rodriguez is getting replaced with a relatively unknown director in Adam Berg.

Apparently, there are scheduling conflicts between Rodriguez and their star actor, Ryan Reynolds.  Originally, it was rumored that the studio would replace Reynolds.  

So what happened?  Personally, I'm not buying the excuse and I'm guessing it's more due to a lack of chemistry.

Ryan Reynolds Might Be Deadpool, Might Be R.I.P.D.

"See what happens when you make me CHOOSE?"

News today from the Ryan Reynolds front, and no, it's not about weight training.

Reynolds has recently been linked to R.I.P.D, the adaptation of the graphic novel from Peter M. Lenkov by the same name.  He'd play a recently deceased police officer who joins a group of undead vigilantes to find his own murderer. Sounds promising, and now that the project has attracted Red director Robert Schwentke, it sounds downright probable that Reynolds will lead the cast.

Reynolds Talks 'Deadpool' Talk; Rodriguez Walks?

Ryan Reynolds should probably leave Deadpool behind. He doesn't need it, Fox is almost certainly going to screw it up, and with the delays in getting the project going, it may just be a waste of his time. The subject is getting renewed interest for two reasons. First, Robert Rodriguez, who has been flirting with the movie for a while, is in a state of negotiations with the studio that has been described as "tenuous." That's not good. And if Rodriguez goes, it's time to call in the action hacks just so Fox' investment isn't drawn out ad infinitum.

The second reason Deadpool is newsworthy is that Reynolds has talked to Total Film (by way of Comic Book Movie) about the movie. He's still very excited about it, as you can tell. "Deadpool is not a superhero movie, it's a deconstruction of superhero movies," Reynolds says, "so to come off Green Lantern and have the opportunity to do a movie like Deadpool is great in every way possible." Except he may not "come off" Green Lantern and get that chance. We've already talked about Warner Bros.' interesting in plowing through three Lantern movies one on top of the other, and after the success of The Proposal, Reynolds has a bunch of other projects that are ready to go.
