Eva Mendes on Shortlist of Actresses Up for 'Total Recall' Reboot Cast

I'm super psyched to see additional casting begin for Len Wiseman's Total Recall reboot starring Colin Farrell as Doug Quaid/Hauser.  Today Deadline received a shortlist of actresses being considered to fill the two female lead roles opposite of Farrell, and it's full of attractive talent with Eva Mendes among the names being discussed for both parts.

The first role is that of Quaid's wife Lori, played by Sharon Stone in the original Total Recall who tries to kill him.  Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger are on deck to test for the part this week, with Mendes also involved in the mix.

Trailer for 'Last Night'

With all the news and rumors about Sam Worthington being cast for this movie, turning down a role for that movie, here's a trailer for a movie he actually made. And he's not blue, doesn't swing a sword, and has an accent. Guys, hide your girls. Or not, once you hear Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes are in this one.

Last Night stars Sam and Keira as married couple Michael and Joanna Reed, and it explores their relationship when other love interests enter their lives. With Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet as those interests, can you blame them?

Movie Review - 'The Other Guys'

The Other Guys Starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and Eva Mendes Directed by Adam McKay Rated PG-13

The least popular words ever uttered at a concert are "This one's from our new album." Well, that or "How 'bout another round of applause for our opening act, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band." But the reason people go grab an overpriced beer during the new stuff is because they pay to hear the hits. In The Other Guys, it's like Will Ferrell put out a double-disc concept album and decided to let that dominate most of his concert and all of the encore. In other words, there are plenty of chances to go hit the merchandise table or the port-o-john with this movie. Ferrell has perfected a rather imperfect brand of comedy. His signature characters are all fairly similar: They have post-ironic musical tastes, their rants are explosive and usually peppered with outdated phraseology, the fashion sense is an amalgam of things that were never fashionable, and they're oblivious to their own lack of appeal. That same characterization surfaces again in The Other Guys, but unfortunately, there isn't enough of it. Ferrell is deadly accurate with his newest weapon, Det. Allen Gamble, who is all of those things above and a little more. And in a better comedy, it would be a fantastic character. Unfortunately, this is a send-up of the buddy cop genre, which is blatantly unnecessary, because the buddy cop genre slipped into inescapable self-parody when Tom Hanks was partnered with a dog in Turner & Hooch. Det. Gamble's partner is Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), who was on the fast track in homicide until a case of mistaken identity planted him behind a desk. While Gamble is a fully-formed comic creation, Hoitz barely exists outside of a few bullet points, putting Wahlberg - not really a natural comedian in the first place - at a big disadvantage. Together, as you might expect, Gamble and Hoitz are the laughing stock of the squad room, until they decide to tackle a case that begins with absent construction permits and ends, well, a little higher up the totem pole. Getting there is less enjoyable than watching Hoitz' exasperation with Gamble and watching Will Ferrell find new notes to play with essentially the same character he's presented since Craig the cheerleader on Saturday Night Live almost 15 years ago. It really is kind of boring watching the story go toward its obvious end, and as is the case with lots of comedies gone awry, The Other Guys runs out of ideas before it runs out of time, so it works way too hard trying to manufacture laughs, which can be brutal business.

No 'Ghost Rider' Sequel for Eva Mendes

They're making a second Ghost Rider, and Nicolas Cage played rope-a-dope with the producers, cashing in on Thursday. That's the day after The Sorcerer's Apprentice rolled a gutterball on opening day. I don't think this sequel will do nearly as well as the first one, which was something of a surprise. So Cage made his money, at a point when that's harder for him to do.

But someone won't be returning, and I don't mean me in the audience. Eva Mendes, doing press for The Other Guys, tells Superhero Hype, her flaming skull days are behind her. Asked that question specifically, Mendes commented, "No, unfortunately."

New 'Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans' Trailer

Now that some reviews have been filed for Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, it begins to make a little more sense. When we first saw the trailer this summer, it just looked like it was way out over the cliff.

But apparently, that's kind of the idea, so some of what you see in the trailer is supposed to be this bizarre. The film stars Nic Cage, a good choice if you want to walk hand-in-hand with the strange, and he even received some good notices in Toronto playing a cop dealing with all sorts of demons, real and drug induced. This new trailer is quite a bit like the first one, meaning you would'nt think this was anything close to a Werner Herzog movie or in any way related to the first Bad Lieutenant. You'll see some of the Toronto quotes here, too, and it's worth showing just because it's of a much higher video quality than the first trailer.
