DAVE Students Give Star Wars the Ol' College Try

JoBlo has uncovered a really entertaining Star Wars fan film made by the students of DAVE (Digital Arts and Visual Effects) School in Orlando, Florida.

The five-minute film, entitled The Solo Adventures, uses a computer animation style similar to The Clone Wars TV show. The story focuses on Han Solo and Chewbacca as they attempt to deliver cargo for Jabba the Hutt. You'll remember that in Mos Eisley spaceport in A New Hope, Han is confronted by Greedo, who mentions that Jabba is upset because Han dumped his cargo on a mission. (As any purist will tell you, this is moments before Han shoots first.) This film centers around that failed mission.

A Fan-Made 'Footloose' Remake Coming Soon

Once upon a time, a remake of Footloose was going to be in theaters this year. A strange chain of events that has left the film without a star has officially sidelined it, and it's on its second screenplay and director already. But Paramount really wants to cut loose, so maybe...2011?

In the meantime, Cinematical reports Our Footloose Remake is a scene-by-scene update of the 80s classic made by fans all over North America. You can find out more at the fan film's official site, which vows to "remake the crap out of this movie." Here's the story:

"Sloth's Song" from Fan-Created 'Goonies' Musical

I don't hold out much hope for more Goonies anytime soon. Maybe a remake, since it did come from the 80s, after all, but there has been talk about a sequel for a few years, and I just don't think it'll ever go anywhere. Probably not a bad thing, either.

So instead, some fans of The Goonies have written and produced their own musical, which is not to be confused with the possible Broadway-bound song-and-dance update Richard Donner has been mulling over for a while. This video comes to us from /film, which credits Rob Dean and Keith Doughty with coming up with the idea. Really, this is the way these things should work, unless there's copyright infringement. Let the fans take these characters on their next adventures, especially for something like The Goonies.

Watch the 'Watchmen' Fan Films

Suppose you want to see Watchmen this weekend but you've kind of figured out it's going to mean waiting in a long line to see an even longer movie. Want an alternative?

Well, they don't have the budget of Zack Snyder's version, but the internet is full of Watchmen fan films, many of which were borne out of necessity: For a long time, it didn't look like we'd ever get the real thing. Not all of these have great production values, of course, but there are a couple in here worth checking out, particularly the first one, which creatively uses the original comic to tell its story. There's an awful lot of Rorschach here, as you might have predicted, so if you can't get enough of his charm and wit, you've come to the right place.
