WB President Wants 'Justice League' Movie for 2013, Plans for Batman After 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Oh what a regime change at a studio can do...  Last night, the interweb was a grumblin' after an LA Times article on new Warner Bros. President Jeff Robinov made a passing comment about having a Justice League movie in theaters by 2013.  And when I say passing, I do mean passing - nothing other than a title and year were mentioned.  Now today, in a follow up piece to the article posted yesterday, the LA Times and Robinov directly addressed the studio's plan for the superhero team-up.

But that's not all.  While discussing the course of the studio's various hero franchises, Robinov confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises is in fact the endpoint of Batman’s story as it currently exists on film, wrapping Christopher Nolan's trilogy.  But more surprisingly, he and the studio plan to reboot the character immediately afterward.

Bradley Cooper Surprised to Hear He'll Play The Flash

We told you on Monday that Bradley Cooper was rumored to be the front-runner for the leading role in The Flash, which is currently in development. SuperHeroHype caught up with the actor recently to follow-up on that rumor, and it turns out that it was complete news to him. Or was it?

Woah there. I'm playing who now?

"I've never heard anything about it ever in my life," Cooper said. "It's funny."

Warner Bros. Working on 'Flash,' 'Green Lantern 2'

Warner Bros., striking before the iron is hot, has announced plans for a Green Lantern sequel. Shouldn't be a major surprise that the studio is planning a franchise; that's kind of the goal of these superhero movies. But to announce it so soon is a little out of left field. After all, the first movie won't even be released for a year. But Ryan Reynolds is locked in for the long haul, so this is probably smart business.

Heat Vision says there's more going on at DC Entertainment - the meeting of the minds bewteen Warner Bros. and DC Comics, a fellow Time-Warner company - with the first moves on a Flash movie apparently under way. I'll do my usual bitching that this should be Wonder Woman first, but it will fall on deaf ears as always. "The Flash film will take inspiration from [writer-turned-DCE honcho Geoff Johns’] recent work and will feature the Barry Allen incarnation of the character. (In comics lore, several names have wielded the Flash mantle, though Allen, created in 1956, remains by far the most popular)," writes Heat Vision.

Conflicting Reports on the Status of 'The Flash'

It was a surprisingly busy week for the movie version of The Flash, as two separate reports about the film's future made headlines. IGN talked to Dark Knight producer Charles Roven, who admitted that while he was once on the project - which he says has been "hobbled" - he's no longer working on The Flash.

"I was involved at one point with The Flash," Roven said. "And Warner Bros. came to me and said, 'The work that you've been doing hasn't yet resulted in something that any of us, including the filmmaking team, feel could be greenlit as a movie. We're trying to accomplish something that takes into account the entire, rich DC character world, and we'd like to pull it back." Roven also said the studio assured him, "That doesn't mean that you aren't going to be a part of it. We just want to take a different kind of approach. Do you mind if we try that?'"

'The Flash' Gets a Writer...Maybe

Someday, I hope someone will explain the greater appeal of The Flash to me. As comic book heroes go, I guess he's OK, but to me, he's kind of the Journey of superheroes: Can't argue the success, but really hard to take seriously.

Maybe I just didn't give him enough of a chance. For whatever reason, The Flash didn't resonate with me, so the news that they're making or planning to make a Flash movie doesn't really make me do backflips. IESB recently sat down with Charles Roven, who has co-produced the Nolanverse of Batman movies, so he's got this DC Comics thing in his back pocket, right? Well, not exactly. Amid rumors that Dan Mazeau has wowed Warner Bros. executives with a Jonny Quest script that led to him taking a crack at The Flash, Roven was tightlipped. "You know, the problem... It’s not only a problem, I can’t really give you any information about The Flash. I can’t even confirm that Dan is on it," explained Roven.
