Producer Says 'Friday the 13th' Sequel is Dead

I don't quite understand this, but there won't be a sequel to Friday the 13th. Sure, the remake that came out last year wasn't very good, especially after the first 15 - 20 minutes, but it made a ton of money, and wasn't that the point all along? I mean, it's isn't as if Platinum Dunes remade the horror classic for artistic reasons.

So, a movie that almost quintupled its production budget was scheduled to go into production this year for a 3-D sequel. But it hadn't happened yet, which prompted a Twitter user to ask producer Brad Fuller about the film's status. "It is dead - not happening," replied Fuller. Bloody-Disgusting tracked down the exchange, and that's about as boiled down as it gets. The site checked with Fuller to see if the update was legit, and he confirmed it again. So the only thing that can kill Jason is...apathy?

'Friday the 13th 2' to Open on Next Friday the 13th

In the past week we've received a new trailer for the Nightmare on Elm Street remake that looks pretty good, a halt on Halloween 3-D, which is also good news, and that leaves only one big horror icon left to give us an update. Paging Jason Voorhees...

According to Bloody-Disgusting, the sequel to Friday the 13th will be released - wait for it - on the Friday the 13th in 2010, which happens to be in August. Because using that gimmick is still somehow viewed as clever, it was either August 2010, May 2011 (where it would be crushed by the weight of Spider-Man, Thor, and probably other stuff), or a longer wait until 2012. However, just so you know in advance, the third one of these will very likely be in theaters on April 13, 2012. That year has three Friday the 13ths, January, April, and July.

Jason Voorhees to Frolic in Freshly Fallen Flakes?

On Friday, August 13, 2010, the producers of Friday the 13th may let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Talking to IGN, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form hinted that Jason would return on "a nice date coming up next summer." There's only one Friday the 13th next summer, by the way.

When asked the seemingly out of the blue question about whether or not Friday the 13th Part 2 (as Fuller calls it) would take place in the dead of winter, Fuller's reply was, "You know, we were having a blast on the set; we want to have fun. We also want to bring things [audiences] haven't seen before and one of the things that they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow."

'Friday the 13th' on DVD and Blu-ray June 16th

The reboot of Friday the 13th was at least as good as it needed to be. The horror flick featured a very strong opening 20 minutes or so, and had lots of mayhem, even if the use of an elaborate underground lair for Jason Voorhees seemed a little above his station.

Still, it was better than every Friday the 13th sequel ever made, and it joins a list of recent updates like The Hills Have Eyes and My Bloody Valentine as horror remakes done right. Done wrong? How about Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror. I can't give Halloween credit for improving on the original, because that's John Carpenter's flick is as good as slasher movies get. Friday the 13th had a big opening weekend and wound up with close to $100 million in global box office, so I'm sure we're just at the beginning of a new series. Surprise! More 'Friday the 13th' Movies on the Way

My jaw certainly didn't hit the floor when I read at The Hollywood Reporter that Damien Shannon and Mark Swift were already writing another Friday the 13th movie. Shannon and Swift, which sounds like a morning zoo radio team, wrote the Jason Voorhees reboot that set a record for a horror movie opening a couple weeks ago. The big news in all of this is that it isn't expected that Platinum Dunes wants to follow the path previously set out by the first Friday the 13th franchise. The idea is that Jason will embark on new killing sprees that have no direct relation to the many subsequent chapters of the original series. When Jason comes back, which seems like a certainty even with the sudden drop-off after the film's big opening day, there will more than likely be some new faces. Director Marcus Nispel probably won't come back and stars Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti might be otherwise occupied. Then again, since the series is about Jason, why bother? As for when the bodies will hit the floor again, The Reporter says the second half of 2010, and yes, August 13th is a Friday.
