After over a decade of enchanting fans on screens across the world, the creative team behind Warner Bros. highly successful Harry Potter movies are getting the Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery award from the Art Director's Guild. The ADG's 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards will take place on February 4, 2012.

It may sound almost as unbelievable as the existence of magic itself, but according to Warner Bros., the plan is to remove all Harry Potter DVDs from store shelves by the end of the year. This is only a month or so after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is given a DVD launch on Nov. 11. The move is probably just a way of building up anticipation for some kind of massive box set release.

As sentimental as this may be for many fans of the Hogwarts world, and therefore Harry Potter, there's a new documentary on the final two Harry Potter films. Morgan Matthews was allowed to document the final two part entry finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1 and Part 2), aptly and somewhat curiously titled When Harry Left Hogwarts.

I know, I know, this was never really in doubt but I guess we should report that it's official now. After breaking every major single box office record, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has now broken the IMAX record with $23.2 million worldwide over the weekend. This translates into an impressive $59,000 per screen which is just about every single seat it the theater. IMAX CEO confirms this and says, "The only way we could have done better would have been to have more seats."
It also broke the domestic box office record for IMAX with $15.2 million and internationally it generated $8 million for an average of $67,000 per screen! Surprisingly enough, they still have yet to open in China and other countries with IMAX presence.

Wowza! Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows 2 just did $43.5 million in midnight screenings handidly beating Twilight Saga: Eclipse by $13.5 million. Even if they were helped by 3D tickets that is huge! Still when we talk about the records that matter, it's the box office figures for the first 24 hours which is currently set at $72 million by Eclipse, and the box office for the three day opening weekend which is at $158 million set by The Dark Knight.
So will Harry Potter break these records? Well I think the odds are still against them as I said in my previous post, I think the closure of the 405 this weekend in LA is keeping many people home. Yeah, I know it's only one city but I think a good portion of box office sales 5 - 8% probably comes from the LA area.
