Hayden Panettiere and Nikki Reed Head to 'Downers Grove'

Hayden Panettiere (the cute cheerleader from NBC's "Heroes") and Nikki Reed (from the Twlight films) have signed on to star in the upcoming teen thriller Downers Grove, according to THR. Neither of them, of course, are teenagers, but they'll play high school girls in the movie. Not that this is anything unique, mind you, and at 21 and 22 years old, respectively, they're not that far from high school age.

I probably don't need to clarify, but that's Nikki on the left and Hayden on the right

The film's screenplay was written by novelist Bret Easton Ellis, whose books have been turned into some memorable movies: the well-known Less Than Zero, American Psycho, and The Rules of Attraction, as well as 2008's The Informers, the script for which he also co-wrote. This time Easton Ellis is sort of turning the tables: Downers Grove is based on a novel by Michael Hornberg.

'Scream 4' Changes Writers, Faces Cast Upheaval

Already a bit sketchy, reemerging over a decade later, Scream 4, the film that will purportedly kick off a new trilogy, is having trouble putting one foot in front of the other.

After putting together the cast, Wes Craven is now seeing defections as the film enters production and on top of that, it appears that the script has undergone some last minute changes. Zap2It reports that Lauren Graham has left the project because the role she received was much smaller than the one she was promised, and her departure comes the same week Lake Bell cited scheduling conflicts and backed out, too. And Hayden Panettiere is reportedly complaining that her supporting character has been "dumbed down significantly," and has left her "beyond frustrated."

Ashley Greene In Talks To Star in 'Scream 4'

Scream 4, perhaps realizing its youngest returning principal cast member will be 37 when it's released next year, is looking for some new hotness. Ashley Greene is a good place to start, I think. Greene, who recently got a fat raise from the Twilight franchise, along with her co-supporting players, is one of the names being pursued for Scream, along with Hayden Panetierre, Rory Culkin, and Lake Bell.

Heat Vision reports that Greene would essentially be the new Sidney, playing Neve Campbell's cousin in the film. And that's why I said earlier in the week that out of all the Twilight cast members, Greene had the strongest case for getting more money; her phone will be ringing off the hook for a couple years. Supposing this is the beginning of a new trilogy, here comes three movies for her. Panetierre would play Greene's best friend, and she'd fill the Jamie Kennedy film geek role, as well. Culkin would be the new Skeet Ulrich, and is it time for that, frankly? Lake Bell, older than the rest, is negotiating to play a police officer who knew Campbell's Sidney in high school.

Trailer - Hayden Panettiere in 'I Love You, Beth Cooper'

Most TV stars never make the transition to movie stars. Why is that? I couldn't say. But it's rarer than you'd think.

For Hayden Panettiere , probably the best news for her career is that Heroes isn't putting up the kind of numbers it would need to hang around a really long time. Plus, she's still very young, so she has time to find her way into movie stardom, if it's going to happen. The approach is right in this case, taking a high school comedy called I Love You, Beth Cooper , in which she plays the object of her school valedictorian's affection. I don't know that the movie looks that great, but it's got a wider appeal than if she played a drug addict in some overly affected indie drama. And since nobody expects her to be Meryl Streep, why bother trying?
