And the Oscar for Best Comedy goes to…

If these are the words that you’re longing to hear then either your name is Judd Apatow or you really need to get out more.  In an article that ran in the L.A. Times, Apatow vented his frustration with the academy’s apparent bias against the comedy genre, while advocating the addition of a Best Comedy Picture category.

Apatow was obviously citing the dearth of comedies that have achieved the ultimate prize.  No Academy love for such deserving classics as; Knocked Up, Drillbit Taylor or even the memorable Year One.

Stars Align for Second 'New Year's Eve' Trailer

The Super Bowl of rom coms and date movies is back for part II.  The producers who gave audiences Valentine's Day now follow it up with New Year's Eve, another romantic holiday of sorts.  Gary Marshall's next relationship film is equally star studded, featuring a cast of talent I'm not particularly fond of in Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel.

Trailer To 'Valentines Day' Sequel 'New Year's Eve'

I am ashamed to admit that I did actually enjoy Valentine's Day, but my enjoyment was minuscule; if that could save me from having my man card revoked.  The film wasn’t well received by critics and even GTBP gave it 2 Damn Dirty Apes and I understand why.  Now, a trailer has been released for the sequel, New Year's Eve.

Creepy Trailer for 'The Resident'

I've never been a fan of Hilary Swank, unless she's in the boxing ring or pretending to be a dude.  The trailer for her new movie The Resident  is entertaining enough that it might bring me back to her corner, especially if the movie is nearly as good as the trailer.  The suspenseful thriller also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (pictured below) presumably as the landlord that stalks her. 

Here's the film's synopis from IMDB:  When a young doctor suspects she may not be alone in her new Brooklyn loft, she learns that the landlord (Morgan?) has formed a frightening obsession with her.

Trailer - Sam Rockwell, Hilary Swank in 'Conviction'

The Oscar roll call that accompanies movie trailers does one of two things, and sometimes both. It can tell you much talent has been assembled for a movie, which to some people indicates there's no way the movie represented can be bad. It can also remind you of how unfair the damn Oscars are.

Witness the new drama Conviction, based on actual events. The Oscar roll call includes two-time winner Hilary Swank, the never-recognized Sam Rockwell, and nominees Minnie Driver, Juliette Lewis, and Melissa Leo. Oh yeah, I forgot: Juliette Lewis has an Oscar nomination. And so does Minnie Driver. Sam Rockwell...bupkus. That's sad. The upside is he looks terrific in conviction, playing a man wrongly locked up for 18 years. So does Swank, for that matter, and at least in the trailer, her Boston accent doesn't falter or really get in the way. That's one actors tend to overdo to showcase how dedicated they are to getting the accent down.
