So the viral marketing begins with "Operation Early Bird" (to which Get The Big Picture's David Hoffman covered, click here to read) and the twitter handle "fire rises".  It's no surprise that promoting the heck out of the IMAX Prologue (which will premiere in front of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol next week) will make the internet buzz with praise/scrutiny by comic book fans.  Until then, read up on what director Christopher Nolan has to say about the last installment The Dark Knight Rises.

'Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol' Gets Early IMAX Release

IMAX is on a mission to get every blockbuster movie on its bigger screens, and have officially nabbed the first feature film to debut on their screens.  IMAX and Paramount Pictures announced their deal earlier today, which will see Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol  preview arrive at all IMAX locations starting on December 16th thru the film's theatrical run, which begins on December 21st.  

Approximately 30-minutes of scenes from the fourth Mission: Impossible film were shot using IMAX cameras, and for these sequences the screen will expand to fill up the entire screen.

'Inception' & Two Others Headed Back to IMAX Theaters

It's Inception only much bigger

Threee of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters are to blowing up on the IMAX screens again from now until October 6th.  As part of "IMAX Big Movie Week", AMC is breaking open the vault to release Inception, Star Trek and Fast Five in the specialty theaters again.  Fans can enjoy these mind-blowing movie effects one more time for only $7 per ticket.

None of the three were actually shot in IMAX initially, though Inception has some scenes that take full advantage of this format.

IMAX Stock Gets Crushed; Down 50% in the Last Month

Everyone talks about Netflix stock recently losing a couple of points due to lower than expected subscriptions projected into the future, however, the stock that is really losing its shirt is IMAX.  Just over a month ago, IMAX was trading at $38 per share.  Today, it sits at $17.70.  In the world of stocks, that decline is just insane.  So what is happening?

Some has to with the brand dilution.  Basically, IMAX screens in theaters are just not the same anymore.

'Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2' Breaks IMAX Record

I know, I know, this was never really in doubt but I guess we should report that it's official now.  After breaking every major single box office record, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 has now broken the IMAX record with $23.2 million worldwide over the weekend.  This translates into an impressive $59,000 per screen which is just about every single seat it the theater.  IMAX CEO confirms this and says, "The only way we could have done better would have been to have more seats."

It also broke the domestic box office record for IMAX with $15.2 million and internationally it generated $8 million for an average of $67,000 per screen! Surprisingly enough, they still have yet to open in China and other countries with IMAX presence.
