Matthew Vaughn To Direct 'X-Men: First Class' Sequel

With this summer’s successful continuation of the X-Men franchise, Matthew Vaughn has been officially brought back as the director for the X-Men: First Class sequel.  Also returning is screenwriter Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer as producer.  Many would’ve been surprised had there not been an announcement since the latest film, set in 1960s exploring the beginnings of the “X-Men” Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender), grossed more than $350 million worldwide.

'Welcome to The Punch' Pic Shows James McAvoy's a Cool Customer

James McAvoy impressed me as a young Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, but his role in the new action film, Welcome to The Punch from director Eran Creevy (Shifty) could go down as his coolest yet.   The gritty crime drama, Welcome to The Punch will pit a young detective Max Lewinsky (McAvoy) against the one criminal mastermind, Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong) who avoided his capture and fled to Iceland.   When Sternwood's son finds himself in trouble, he must show his face again, giving Lewinsky a second chance at justice.

Movie Review - 'Gnomeo and Juliet'

Gnomeo and Juliet Starring James McAvoy and Emily Blunt Directed by Kelly Asbury Rated G

Attention all home owning, yard adoring, gardeners everywhere: You may not know it, but your innocent looking garden gnomes may in fact be warring with your neighbors gnomes, having forbidden love affairs, and in their fury, plotting mass destruction to you and your neighbors’ homes via lawn mower. As cute and possibly exciting as this may sound, you may also find that said gnomes are not quite as clever or entertaining as one may expect. What you can expect, however, is a predictable, simplistic little romp, which, while fun, may leave you yearning for your children’s toys to come alive once more and give you, say, another Toy Story, perhaps.

Gnomeo and Juliet is the classic tale of two star-crossed lover gnomes (James McAvoy and Emily Blunt) who live on either side of a fence separating the red garden (Capulet) from the blue garden (Montague). As both young gnomes are the heirs of each garden’s leader gnomes, (Michael Caine and Maggie Smith) their love affair, beginning with an adorable play fight over an orchid, is fraught with trouble. Only after an ill-fated lawn mower race between Gnomeo and a decidedly evil little gnome appropriately named Tybalt (Jason Statham), leads to a devastating civil gnome brawl, do the leader gnomes realize the error of their ways.

Awesome 'X-Men: First Class' Trailer

Earlier today, 20th Century Fox released the first trailer for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class through the film's Facebook page.  A lot of people (myself included) expected to see the trailer debut during last weekend's Super Bowl considering the game was on the Fox network and many other studios used the most watched sporting event in television history (111 million viewers) as an outlet for showing off their new toys. Instead, Fox waited four additional days to premiere the trailer to a little under 4,000 Facebook friends.  I haven't taken a math class since I graduated high school four years ago but last time I checked 111 million > 4,000 (but what do you expect, it's Fox...).

Regardless, the trailer is FANTASTIC and reassured my hopes that this film will rightfully restore the franchise.  So, check it out after the jump.

Potential 'X-Men: First Class' Spoilers from the Set

Growing up, I was a DC kid.  But, whenever I did stumble over to the Marvel universe it was to check up on Professor X's gifted youngsters.  So, needless to say the last couple X-Men films to come our way have deeply disturbed me.  Now, with Matthew Vaughn behind the camera and James McAvoy rolling around as Mr. Clean, X-Men: First Class is one of my most anticipated movies of next year for the sole reason that it has the potential to get the X-Men franchise back on track.

With production of the film wrapping on the Georgia coast just before the holiday, someone claiming to have been part of the crew has passed on a handful of spoilers and character descriptions to SuperHeroHype.  If you're as interested in this film as I am, hit the jump to check out the report.  But remember, SPOILERS ARE SPOILERS.
