7 New 'John Carter' Pictures Released Online

I do wish that I could have been a fly on the wall when Disney's upcoming John Carter was pitched.  It's a movie based on a series of pulp novels from the early 1900s, detailing battles on a Mars that we now know to be grossly scientifically innacurate.  Is that something that modern audiences can take seriously?  Having said, that I think that it's turning out looking pretty good, especially after the Super Bowl Ad and the release of seven new photos from CineHeroes.  Check the other six out after the jump.

Second 'John Carter' Trailer Fails to Wow

John Carter or He-Man?

Disney's John Carter has been getting universally panned by our guys on GTBP and rightfully so.  As much as I appreciate Taylor Kitsch's acting ability (mostly from Friday Night Lights), and believe he'll have a great career down the line it's hard to overlook how bad John Carter could be.  Let's face it, it's either going experience box-office success on March 9, 2012 or come across as an epic flop.  It appears as a Prince of Persia meets Masters of the Universe (Another He-Man reference?) taking place on Tatooine, similar to the skiff battle in Return of the Jedi.

Underwhelming 'John Carter' Trailer Hits The Web.

 

The first trailer to John Carter or John Carter of Mars, as it's most commonly known, just hit the web.  I'm sorry to say that it looks average and very corny.  I got a vibe when I watched the trailer of a Cowboys and Aliens, Sherlock Holmes suckfest.  It has the elements to make a great pre-summer hit, mystery, action, aliens, romance and tons of CG but the trailer just falls short of my expectations; did I mention that there's aliens in this movie.

'Wolverine' Co-Stars Join 'John Carter of Mars'

Although I didn't see much in either performance that screamed "More! Now!," Taylor Kitsch (Gambit) and Lynn Collins (Kayla Silverfox) from X-Men Origins: Wolverine will join forces again on Disney's John Carter of Mars, with The Hollywood Reporter indicating that Kitsch is set for the title role.

John Carter will be the first live-action film for Wall-E director Andrew Stanton. He joins Brad Bird as Pixar Best Animated-winning directors moving into the realm of flesh and blood actors and location shooting; Bird is currently developing the equally ambitious 1906. Elsewhere, Thomas Haden Church tells Reel Talk that he's joining the cast, as well.
