New French Trailer for 'Upside Down' Looks Crazy Good

Kirsten Dunst won over critics everywhere, including GTBP's Mario Melidona for her performance in Melancholia (Read our review here).  She now looks to follow it up in an exceptional looking new sci-fi love story called Upside Down.  In this drama worlds are literally turned upside down, as Dunst and Jim Sturgess star as two lovers named Adam and Eve, who cannot be together because the two respective worlds they're from have gone to war.

Movie Review: 'Melancholia'

Melancholia Starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland Directed by Lars von Trier Rated R

Lars von Trier certainly has a way with words.  Not only is Melancholia aptly titled, but decisively true in its portrayal of mourning by classical standards, as well as contemporary about its mood.  A planet named Melancholia has entered our solar system bypassing other planets, it endangers everyone whether they believed in science or faith; or found themselves putting their trust in others.  At its core, Melancholia is about the struggles of family and the choices we make of them.

In von Trier's latest film, the director sets the viewer up in knowing how it all ends and will evoke to wonder what came before.  No way out is the name of the game and that's a terrifying way to live.  I should mention that Melancholia isn't your typical "apocalypse movie", but its essence is in viewing two sisters, Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg), cope with the escalating risks of emotional damage when Melancholia enters the space of balance.

Announcing the Palme d'Or Winner at Cannes...

None other than: Terrence Malick's Tree of Life. Producers Bill Pohlad and Dede Gardner accepted the award on the behalf of Malick who's reclusive at public events and festivals. The win came a shock to some with mixed reaction after its world premiere in competition at this years Cannes International Film Festival.

Dunst Joins Lars von Trier's Sci-Fi Disaster Film

Kirsten Dunst has been cast in the next Lars von Trier film, filling in for Penelope Cruz, who bolted for the high seas and Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie is called Melancholia, and if you know anything about von Trier, you know his melancholia is different than almost everyone else's. Heavy, heavy.

Deadline says it's a "sci-fi disaster film," which is an interesting direction for both von Trier and Dunst to go. Melancholia will shoot in Sweden this July through September. And Dunst joins a pretty good cast: Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgaard, Stellan Skarsgaard, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Udo Kier. Man, Udo Kier is cool.

Raimi Walks on 'Spidey 4', Sony to Reboot Franchise

It appears that the Sam Raimi era is over for Spider-Man. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Spider-Man 4, which has been twisting in the wind for months, has been pulled off the table by Sony. Raimi walks away from the franchise, as do the stars, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

"Sony Pictures co-chairman [Amy Pascal] and Columbia Pictures' Matt Tolmach decided they didn't want to replace [Raimi] and instead chose to reboot the franchise," writes Nikki Finke. "Insiders also tell me that Tobey Maguire heard the news in a phone call with Amy today. I'm told Tobey wasn't upset."
