Dimension Films Grabs Kurt Russell Heist Comedy 'The Black Marks'

Dimension Films has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the heist comedy The Black Marks, starring Kurt Russell.  Russell has been fairly quiet since portraying Stuntman Mike in Death Proof, but probably couldn’t resist the offer to play someone by the name of “Crunch Calhoun”. 

According to Deadline, The Black Marks was written by the film’s director, Jonathan Sobol (A Beginner's Guide to Endings), and co-stars Matt Dillon and Jay Baruchel (She's Out of My League).  Production is expected to begin later this month in Canada.

Kurt Russell Takes Costner's Place in 'Django Unchained'?

This dude knows westernsLess than a week ago, it was widely reported that Kevin Costner had withdrawn from Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western Django Unchained.  Costner's scheduling conflict was Kurt Russell's gain, as he's now entered talks to take the role of evil Calvin Candie's (Leonardo DiCaprio) employee Ace Woody, THR reports.

If it Russell signs on to the cast, it will mark the first time Russell has worked with QT since the underwhelming Death Proof.

Kurt Russell Eyes 'Red Dawn' Remake

MGM is taking a fresh look at some of its 1980s fare, bringing RoboCop, Poltergeist, and Red Dawn back to theaters in the next couple of years. RoboCop may be pushed back a tad because of director Darren Aronofsky's schedule and i>Poltergeist hasn't made any major announcements yet, which leave Red Dawn as the first movie of the three that could reach theaters.

Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) was recently hired to take on the script, and now there's word that Kurt Russell is in talks to star in the film, opposite the new Thor, Chris Hemsworth from Star Trek. There's no exact information on what character Russell would play, although we do hear that the remake only uses the foundation of the first film. That makes sense, otherwise you wouldn't need an Oscar nominated screenwriter to punch it up. Plus, the political environment has changed so much in 25 years that you'd need to recalibrate who the real threats to our society are, and I don't mean MSNBC and Fox News.
