Lionsgate Finally Purchases 'Dead Island' Movie Rights

A long drawn out war for the film rights to the video game release Dead Island has come to an end.  Lionsgate had emerged the victor to the property, which has sold over 2 million copies and boasted a teaser trailer about a year ago that had over a million views in 24 hours.  Bad decision or good decision... well it doesn't matter now it's your movie to fuck up, Lionsgate.

Sure, you might not play video games or you think Dead Island was the most over-hyped game of 2011.

Full Trailer for 'The Hunger Games' Released

On a plane from Seattle to South Carolina, I started and finished the first novel in Suzanne Collins' trilogy.  Although not thoroughly impressed with the story since it is not a particularly new idea which has been done better before, I was still captivated by Katniss, Peeta, and the rest of the inhabitants of Panem.  The internet is abuzz with movie news of the upcoming film and the first full trailer was released this morning causing thousands of tweets and Youtube reaction videos as fans and film lovers anticipate March 23, 2012 - the release of the film.

Lionsgate Gobbles Up Movie Rights to Zombie Game Dead Island

A teaser trailer for the game Dead Island released in February was all Lionsgate needed to see to know they wanted it.  Today, it's official that producer Sean Daniel has emerged with the exclusive film rights to the zombie adventure Dead Island, according to Deadline.  Daniel (The Mummy, Tombstone) will produce the adaptation for Lionsgate.

Needless to say, Lionsgate is thrilled with its new acquisition.

'Blair Witch 3' Ready To Go?

Just another sequel to a franchise that shoul've been put to rest.  We know that the "found footage" genre is running rampant with Paranormal Acivity as the prime example and as so mnay other has asked, "What has kept Lionsgate from making Blair Witch 3?". The Blair Witch Project made $250 million worldwide at the boxoffice and its rushed sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, has flopped only making $50 million and it's a franchise that has been dormant for over 10 years.

Lionsgate Doing The 'Dirty Dancing'

Ladies and Gents, it was bound to happen. Not only is the 80s classic Dirty Dancing being remade for today's audience, but it's being directed by Kenny Ortega. The man behind the High School Musical movies that had teens throbbing over its stars, and the documentary of Michael Jackson's last unfinished concert This Is It, will be taking the helm of this love-story.
