5 Things I'm Thankful for This Year in Film (2010)

Anyone that really knows me, can tell you one thing:  I love lists.  Grocery lists, packing lists, Christmas lists, fantasy football lists, you name it and I've probably got a list for it.  And being that Thanksgiving, like any holiday, is as slow of a news day as you'll find in Hollywood, I got to putting together a list of my own.  My favorite five things that have happened in the film industry this year.

Josh Holloway from 'Lost' the New Jim Rockford?

I always believed Jim Rockford should come back somehow, somewhere, and at some time. James Garner created such a great character that, a generation or more later, very little harm to the show's legacy could be done. Plus: Top ten all-time theme song.

I didn't think, though, that NBC would plumb for The Rockford Files when the network is at its nadir. Proof that they've made some bad decisions was underscored by the fact that this new Rockford Files would star Dermot Mulroney. Seriously? Well, not now. Entertainment Weekly says Lost alumnus Josh Holloway could wind up starring in the series, which is produced by House executive David Shore, Peter Berg, and Steve Carell, an odd trio. If nothing else, he's a much better fit than Mulroney in addition to having instant face if not name recognition, something NBC desperately needs in prime time.

Josh Holloway from 'Lost' the Newest 'Avenger'?

Avengers News, which you would correctly assume has something to do with The Avengers, has been reporting that Marvel has contacted Lost star Josh Holloway to play a "lead" role in the film. That's funny; I thought there were already at least three "lead" roles that have already been handed out. This thing's going to have more tangents than a two-hour Love Boat season finale.

But with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America (and presumably the Hulk) accounted for, who does that leave for Holloway? A villain? Well, we know he can play an anti-hero pretty well. But Avengers News says he would more than likely be an ancillary Avenger, like Ant-Man, Hawkeye, or "Dum Dum" Dugan. But that's just using a process of elimination.

'Lost: The Complete Collection' DVD/Blu-ray Details

Lost: The Complete Collection is headed to DVD and Blu-ray, and it will only set you back about a car payment. The DVD set of all six seasons with special features goes for $250, but if you've got Blu-ray, why not just throw down another 30 bones for the champagne room treatment?

The full series (as well as season six on its own) is available on August 24th. In addition to giving you the chance to waste a few months watching every episode in order (OK...maybe not waste), I think this is one of the very few series that you'll want to watch over again, maybe a year at a time, which is what I did before each season. Not all five seasons before this last one, for example, just the preceding season. But I think it's worth the money if you loved the show, because you'll definitely run 'em over again at some point. As far as features go, you can check out 15 Lost "Slapdowns," in which producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are confronted by celebrity Lost fans, who ask tough questions about the events on the show. There's also a lighthearted highlight of every character who died during the show's run, tours of Oahu, and plenty of other stuff. For example, it's the first DVD/Blu-ray set I know of that comes with a black light penlight. It's also the first with a replica of the Lost island, but then, you'd kind of expect that it would be.

'Lost' Finale Draws 13.5 Million Viewers

It was a season high for Lost, but not a sonic boom by any means. The series finale averaged about 13.5 million viewers, according to Neilsen (as reported by the phenomenal TV By the Numbers). It was clearly the top choice on Sunday night, but when you don't average much more than 10 million viewers on a given week and you're the kind of show that requires constant viewing, it's tough to see how Lost could have attracted millions more.

The two hour special that ran before the finale, Lost: The Final Journey, averaged just under 10 million, meaning the combination of all things Smoke Monster pushed ABC to the easiest win it may see during the sweeps, doubling up NBC and its Celebrity Apprentice/Minute to Win It/Dateline combo.
