Another 'Love Guru' Pirate to Plead Guilty

I can't believe anyone would leak The Love Guru online, and I really can't believe that two people were caught doing it, and one of them has done prison time. It's not that they shouldn't go to jail for it, just that of all the things in the world you could do wrong...these idiots chose to steal a copy/upload one of the worst movies in recent memory.

Mischa Wynhausen will plead guilty in the next few months, according to reports, and he'll serve three years of probation for actually posting the movie online. No jail time, though. However, the source of the leak, Jack Yates, spent six months in the clink for swiping an extra copy of the film from his employer, Los Angeles Duplication and Broadcasting, keeping one for himself. Yates was supposed to provide clips of the movie to The Tonight Show last summer, but apparently made an extra copy of The Love Guru, of all films he probably had access to, to show at a family get-together. Because nothing says warm family memories like movie piracy.

The Razzies Love 'The Love Guru'

As everyone expected, The Love Guru and Paris Hilton were the big winners/losers at the Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, of course, acknowledge the worst movies and performances of the year, and they're always announced the night before the Oscars.

Mike Myers' magnum opus picked up three awards, as did Hilton's The Hottie and The Nottie. Paris executed the rare double shot, earning Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress. In a strange way, it's her most notable achievement that doesn't involve jail. Uwe Boll finally won the Worst Career Achievement Razzie, and there was even room for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Ha! Idiot Pirates 'Love Guru,' Gets Arrested

"What are you in for?"

"I pirated The Love Guru." A conversation very much like that one is in the near future for Californian Jack Yates, arrested this past week on charges that he made an illegal copy of Mike Myers' The Love Guru - one of the worst films of 2008 - and distributed it to his friends. Wow. That's a lot of people with bad taste right there. And bad judgment.

And the Razzie Goes To...

The Razzie nominations were announced today, in keeping with the tradition of falling just before the Academy Awards whenever it matters. As you probably know, these aren't the awards you really go for if you're in the movie business, since they highlight the worst of the worst.

The big "winners" appear to be The Love Guru, Uwe Boll, and Paris Hilton. Mike Myers' atrocity is up for seven Golden Raspberries, while Hilton pulled the Kate Winslet, receiving nominations for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress. Well done! Uwe Boll, in addition to taking home the career achievement award, picked up three other additional nominations, as did his films, effectively tying him with Myers for inflicting the most pain on moviegoers in 2008. A few weeks ago, we had the Razzies shortlist, and now they've culled that list down, scraping through the bottom of the barrel. Here are the official nominees: Worst Picture:

'Love Guru,' Stallone, Paris Lead Razzie Nominees

I love The Razzies. I love that there's complete balance with the good films and the bad films, or at least, what we're supposed to value as the good films and devalue as the bad ones. I love that the ceremony is the day before the Oscars, and I love that Halle Berry showed up to collect the awards for Catwoman. She's a bit loony, that one, but I gained a lot of respect for her because she was willing to bite the bullet and make fun of herself.
