Powerful New Trailer for Luc Besson's 'The Lady'

The director that brought you Leon: The Professional and The Fifth Element, tackles a biopic about political activist Aung San Suu Kyi, who led a democratic movement in miltiary-controlled Burma.  Actress Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) portrays the woman, who spent 15 years under house arrest for having the courage to stand up to an oppressive political system.

David Thewlis (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2) plays writer Michael Aris, Aung San Suu Kyi's lover, who stayed with her for the duration of the uprise.

Liam Neeson Taking a Look at 'Taken' Sequel

With The A-Team in theaters and presumed to be the start of a franchise, MTV asked Liam Neeson if he'll be doing any other sequels in the future, particularly more Taken movies.

The first movie was one of the biggest surprises of 2009. It had already made money overseas when it was released in the US on Super Bowl weekend last year. And it kind of exploded, certainly in terms of a early year film that isn't really driven by a movie star. Plus, it didn't cost much to make at all, so it was pure profit in the states and had a pretty healthy run into the spring. So obviously, there would be a call to follow it up. But Neeson is slightly hesitant. "It's hard to get a plot that's going to be believable," he said. "But I'm meeting with [writer-producer] Luc Besson later this month. We're going to sit down and see if we can hash it out."

Blu-ray Artwork, Details for 'Léon: The Professional'

From what I can gather, the new Blu-ray for Léon: The Professional doesn't offer a whole lot other than the chance to own the movie in the latest format. For some, that will be plenty, however. Sony will release it on November 17th, and the film - which was released under both Léon and The Professional depending on where you lived back in the early 1990s - will retail for $24.95.

Here's the new Blu-ray cover; click on the image to see the whole thing: DVD Active reports that we'll get theatrical and uncut versions of the movie, plus three featurettes, one about Natalie Portman, one about Jean Reno, and a ten-year retrospective, which is already a little dated.

Red Band Trailer - 'From Paris With Love'

Next February, a year after Taken arrived in US theaters, director Pierre Morel has another Euraction movie you might want to keep your eye on. It's called From Paris with Love, it stars Tron Javolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and it has one of the coolest posters around.

Travolta plays a US intelligence agent stationed in France, and he certainly does things his own way. Rhys Meyers is the counterpoint, a rather low-ranking, by-the-book operative who has to try babysitting the brusque America, which is akin to herding cats...that are armed with explosives. As I mentioned, the film comes out February 5th, and from the new Red Band trailer, it appears to have a lot more laughs than Taken, which wouldn't be hard to achieve. Again, Morel has teamed with Luc Besson and together they're kind of fashioning quite a cottage industry here of affordable action movies that can find audiences worldwide. That's a smart way of doing business even if it's not the most outside-the-box thinking in the world.

'Taken' Sequel Already Being Planned

I had two immediate reactions walking out of Taken, although I can't remember which one was more immediate. But the things on my mind were, "Wow, Maggie Grace really went overboard. Her 17-year-old acted like she was 12," and "I'd really like to see a sequel to that. Like right now." It looks like one of those things has been addressed, and meanwhile, the Maggie Grace character is trying on training bras.

Yep, a sequel is on the way, and they're also risky business, especially when you want a sequel. Because let's face it: That story is finished. All Liam Neeson can do now is save more people. There's no novelty in it. I suppose you can radically change the circumstances, but it's still going to be Liam Neeson assaulting a couple dozen anonymous thugs in the third act. In a feature on the film's co-writer, Robert Mark Kamen, The Los Angeles Times throws the news in as an afterthought. The article is about how Luc Besson, the film's producer and Kamen's co-writer, has been so successful making a string of $20 million action movies that he's starting his own studio.
