No 'Superbad 2,' But Maybe 'Pineapple Express 2'

"Never, at any juncture in the history of life, have we considered Superbad 2," says Evan Goldberg, co-writer of the original Superbad. It's the same thing Seth Rogen has said for a couple years, although he has added that studio pressure was there to make a sequel.

But Goldberg tells MTV that just flat-out won't happen, holding the door open for another possibility, that the inferior Pineapple Express could get a follow-up. That story, he says, has a more natural extension, and that's true, and he adds that the sequel has kind of been mapped out. But it'll take a while before he, Rogen, and everyone else can come back to it. "We kind of made the classic mistake of people who had a successful film: we then booked everything we could because we thought it'd be our only chance," Goldberg explains. "It still could be our only chance, but man are we booked."

Doctor Who, McLovin Join 'Fright Night' Remake

The cast for Fright Night has added two more names, just days after we learned that it's heading to Las Vegas, which is a change from the original film.

Heat Vision says Christopher Mintz-Plasse and the former Doctor Who, David Tennant, are the new additions, which is at least halfway great news. Actually, McLovin has been pretty decent in everything, sometimes better, and here I thought he'd just be the new Jon Heder. In the update, he's playing Evil Ed, Anton Yelchin's friend who joins the vampire coven. But the big catch here is David Tennant, playing the role Roddy McDowall made famous in the 1980s. As Peter Vincent, he'll transition from late night horror TV host (because they're at best a dying breed) to a Vegas magician (which are a dime a dozen). His stage show "revolves around horror movie imagery," writes Heat Vision, so that's the connection.

'Kick-Ass' Clips and Video Game Trailer

With Kick-Ass around the corner, it's time to start throwing some clips at you. Since neither of these involve Hit-Girl, there's no bad language to worry about. Well, not until the trailer for the new Kick-Ass game.

First, the clips: We see an extended version of one of the signature moments in the trailer, the kind of self-realization moment where Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) tries on the suit and does his best Travis Bickle. Hard to believe this kid's English. The second clip, from MTV, features Red Mist (McLovin), who's showing off all the gadgets in the Mistmobile.

Movie Review - 'Role Models'

Role Models Starring Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse Directed by David Wain Rated R

Exactly how hard should slacker comedies try, anyway? Or should they even try at all? The best of the bunch tend to come from the Judd Apatow factory these days, but there have been others over the past few years that aren’t as successful, commercially or critically. Whether that's a lack of pedigree or inspiration, the proof is in the pudding. Straddling the fence is Role Models, which features a few faces from the Apatow movies but doesn’t really have that secret ingredient that, well, makes the pudding, I guess.Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) work event promotions for Minotaur energy drink. After a particularly dismal effort at a high school at which they parked illegally, they try to extract their Minotaur mobile from a tow truck, which leads to major property damage. The punishment is jail or community service, so Danny and Wheeler sign up for Sturdy Wings, a kind of Big Brother program for rejects. Danny is paired with fantasy realm gamer Augie Farks (Christopher Mintz-Plasse aka McLovin) and Wheeler is assigned the foul-mouthed Ronnie (Bobb’e J. Thompson). As luck or screenplay efficiency would have it, Danny and Wheeler learn a lot about themselves, and they boys do, too.

Nicolas Cage Will 'Kick-Ass' for Matthew Vaughn

Say what you want about Nic Cage, the guy still gets some pretty high-profile gigs. Even after Wicker Man. Case in point: The Hollywood Reporter says that Cage has joined the cast of director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Kick-Ass, the uber-violent Mark Millar comic. Earlier in the week, it was revealed that McLovin would also be in the cast. Today, we're also learning that British kid actor Aaron Johnson will play the lead role in Kick-Ass, a high school nerd named Dave who wants to become a superhero despite his obvious lack of the requisite abilities and powers. Lyndsy Fonseca, who you may know as the daughter from How I Met Your Mother, will play Dave's love interest. As for Cage, he'll play "a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter (11-year-old Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon." I'm a little gun shy about Cage in a comic book movie after Ghost Rider, but as long as we stay away from the digital manscape he showed off in that pile of crap, we should be OK. What do you need to know about Kick-Ass that its unforgettable title doesn't already tell you? How about this: The project is so violent and graphic that it's being produced independently out of necessity. Yep, studios wouldn't touch it. I don't think that's a bad thing. Very often, studios tend to water down comic book movies (*cough* The Punisher), so with Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) directing and co-producing, this could be not only a faithful reproduction but one with a lot more pop than it might have if it had gone through the usual channels.
