Silva's Pick: Worst Film of 2011

With David Hoffman, Josh Baldwin, Mario Melidona, and our editor writing about the best films of 2011, I thought I would just flip the script and tell you about the worst film of 2011 (because of school, I haven't seen many films this year.  So bare with me if your least favorite is on the list).

No other in 2011 had me scratching my head and face palming harder than Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  What a surprise! A Michael Bay film.

Success of 'MI4-Ghost Protocol' Jumpstarts Sequel, More Cruise?

Cruise & co. back for more...

With Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol having an excellent IMAX and theatrical debut (top box-office Christmas weekend) it's not shocking the studio wants Tom Cruise, Brad Bird and the IMF team back for one more mission.  Apparently, Cruise has reintroduced himself to moviegoers as a capable leading man, which may spawn another headlining role for him in Top Gun 2. Bascially, MI4 showed studios Cruise still has the star power to carry a film.

MI4 brought in around $151 million in its first two weeks in theaters, though IMAX was a limited release.

Movie Review: 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol'

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton Directed by Brad Bird Rated PG-13

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is film that defies expectations.  It’s a big-budget star vehicle for an actor who has mostly lost his star power.  It’s directed by Brad Bird, who has previously only done animated films.  But most of all, it’s the fourth film in a series and it is undeniably the best of all of them.  How many times has that happened?

The plot revolves around IMF agent Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) attempts to capture Cobalt (Michael Nyqvist), a Russian-employed nuclear strategist who dreams of worldwide nuclear destruction and the human evolution that would result.  We’re given the barest details of his motivations, probably because to focus more would just magnify how little sense they make.  The situation escalates once Cobalt blows up the Moscow Kremlin, framing Hunt in the process and forcing the US Government to disband IMF completely.  With no support, Ethan and his team members Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton) join up with William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), a desk analyst who knows more then he lets on, and are forced to stop Cobalt on their own.

Christopher Nolan Discusses 'The Dark Knight Rises' IMAX Prologue

So the viral marketing begins with "Operation Early Bird" (to which Get The Big Picture's David Hoffman covered, click here to read) and the twitter handle "fire rises".  It's no surprise that promoting the heck out of the IMAX Prologue (which will premiere in front of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol next week) will make the internet buzz with praise/scrutiny by comic book fans.  Until then, read up on what director Christopher Nolan has to say about the last installment The Dark Knight Rises.

Wondering Where 'The Dark Knight Rises' Prologue Is Showing and What It's About?

Everyone out there are collectively biting their nails in anticipation for the release of the newest Chris Nolan Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises, confirmed to be the last in the Nolan-Bale series.  It was stated sometime last month that a TKDR prologue would play in front of the latest Mission Impossible in IMAX; then word broke the prologue would screen at authentic IMAX theaters.  Now, the good news, or bad news if you're like me, the complete list of IMAX theaters to screen the prologue (I didn't forget about you international blokes):
