Goldblum Speaks Out on Obama's Fly Swatting

Perhaps you've seen the video this week of President Obama forever silencing an impertinent housefly. It happened during a CNBC interview, and Obama even pointed out the fallen fly to the network's camera man, who zoomed in for a close-up.

Sony Picks Up Edward Norton's Barack-umentary

Last year, Edward Norton helped assemble a documentary about Barack Obama's campaign for the White House. That film, By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, will air on HBO, and Sony Pictures has acquired international media rights for the documentary, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Norton produced the film and is kind of the face of the project; Amy Rice and Alicia Sams did most of the work on the ground. They're the directors of the ambitious project, which followed Obama from his days as a senator announcing his bid for the highest office in the free world all the way up to the culmination of that journey last November.

Kal Penn Goes to Work for Obama

It doesn't look like we'll be getting a Harold & Kumar 3 for a while: Kal Penn has quit acting. But it's not for the Joaquin Phoenix reasons or even the Viggo Mortensen reasons. Penn is taking a job in the White House.

He tells Entertainment Weekly (by way of the detective work of Anne Thompson) that he got to know President Obama and some of his staff members during the campaign and expressed an interest in working for the administration. So that means he's leaving House at the end of this season and won't be appearing on screen in the foreseeable future.

"I'm going to be the associate director in the White House office of public liaison. They do outreach with the American public and with different organizations. They're basically the front door of the White House. They take out all of the red tape that falls between the general public and the White House. It's similar to what I was doing on the campaign."

Obama and British PM Make it a Blockbuster Night

To reciprocate a recent gift by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, President Obama handed over a collection of 25 classic films, assembled for him by the American Film Institute. It's quite a collection, containing Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, E.T., Star Wars, The Graduate, and more.

Brown's gift couldn't even come close: A stupid old pen holder. Blah. (Actually, the pen holder was made out of wood from the HMS Gannet, an anti-slave ship that was a sister vessel to the Resolute. The Resolute's wood later was used to make the Oval Office desk. Now that's a gift.) Although I think it would be cooler to give Brown a collection of films that highlight British aggression through the ages - Zulu, Gandhi, Braveheart, The Patriot, In the Name of the Father - the Obama collection is still a pretty sweet haul.
