'Paranormal Activity 3' Trailer

What made the first Paranormal Activity great was that in the decade ruled by Saw, Hostel, and Japanese ghost girls, PA did something none of those other films could do -- instill fear into its audience.  I remember sleeping with one eye open the next week and half after watching it.  However, when Paramount released the sequel, I was excited and rushed to see the film hoping to get scared all over again.  

Unfortunately, that feeling never returned.  Some viral clips surfaced on the internet for the third film, Paranormal Activity 3.

Let The Viral Marketing Begin: Mysterious 'Paranormal Activity 3' Video Pops Up

Paramount is known for doing a viral marketing campaign for its Paranormal Activity films.  The term "viral" means that the advertising media spreads like an epidemic, causing a surge in ticket sales opening weeked.  It worked last year with Paranormal Activity 2 and the year before that with Paranormal Activity.  Now, Shock Till You Drop has released a promotional video sent to them by Paramount for the Henry Joost/ Ariel Schulman directed third film.  Get this -- they recieved the clip on a VHS accompanied with a VCR. Genius.

New 'Paranormal Activity 3' Trailer Released!

Well here it is horror fans.  The trailer you've been all waiting for!  It just seems like yesterday when Paranormal Activity 2 hit theaters but considering these movies never take a ton of time or money to produce, we'll have Paranormal Activity 3 by this October.  I'm thinking it'll just be in time for Halloween.

Anyway, as we reported couple months ago, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman will be directing this one.  They were the guys behind Catfish (which in my mind was kind of dumb).  PA3 will center around Katie and Kristi when they were kids and the movie will be a home video footage they took back in 1988.

Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman To Direct Paranormal Activity 3

 

According to Bloody Disgusting, the directors of Catfish have been selected to direct Paranormal Activity 3.  My first response to this is why not the director of PA2 Tod Williams, who did an excellent job with the film?

Now granted, Catfish was a decent film but I kind of got the feeling that even the directors felt they lucked into how big Catfish was and to be honest, it was the film's misleading marketing that made people see the film.

First Trailer for 'Apollo 18'

Today, Dimension Films released the first trailer for their Paranormal-Activity-in-Space flick Apollo 18.  The found footage sci-fi horror film, directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, follows "the real mission to space in the 1970′s that was canceled by NASA" and is the "Reason We’ve Never Gone Back To The Moon".

In full disclosure, it's going to be VERY hard for me to judge this film impartially because I wrote a script last year in college that was virtually the same concept (found footage film about astronauts encountering aliens), the only difference being mine was set in the near future not the '70s.  And now, between this film and 2012's Dark Moon, my script will never see the light of day.  See kids, it doesn't always pay off to stay in school (I'm only kidding... kind of).  All that said, this film's first trailer doesn't look half bad.
