Peter Berg Confirms Another 'Friday Night Lights' Movie Script is Happening

Peter Berg's movie Friday Night Lights showed us high school football is a larger than life cultural phenomena in the state of Texas.  He used the popularity of the film to develop a Friday Night Lights TV series for NBC which became a huge success.  The show recently wrapped after four seasons, and now Berg has confirmed the hit program has spawned a return to its motion picture roots with a new script in the works, Deadline reports.

'Battleship' Trailer Is Either Hit Or Miss

How could Hollywood make a movie about a board game like Battleship?  Two people sit across from one another, yelling game coordinates to try to sink the other persons ships. Where is there aliens at any point throughout this game?  No, there wasn't and that's exactly what it needed to be awesome; though, to be honest, it doesn't sound any good on paper.  

 

The trailer for Battleship hit the web today and it looks much better than what I expected and what I expected was a huge lump of shit.  It does really look like a Transformer film with boats and ships or a Top Gun sequel with boats and ships but with aliens.  Check it out for yourself.

Peter Berg to Direct Navy SEAL-inspired 'Lone Survivor'

The death of Taliban head Osama Bin Laden has led to Hollywood's recent surge of U.S. armed forces missions to find the terrorists related movies, with The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow being the first to spearhead a project. 

Now another big time director, Hancock's Peter Berg is out to make his own passion project about a Navy SEAL mission that is ambushed by Taliban members in Afghanistan called Lone Survivor, according to Deadline. 

Berg recently wrapped up the movie adaptation of the popular boardgame Battleship (pictured above), due out this summer for Universal, which helped the studio back his desire to make this new project.

Liam Neeson Playing Naval Admiral in 'Battleship'

Battleship keeps getting weirder. Not Crispin Glover weird, but it has become anything but the movie that popped into everyone's mind when the board game adaptation was announced over a year ago. "Adaptation" seems an ill-fitting word; more than anything, it's just using the name of Hasbro's game with an entirely different set of circumstances.

So Peter Berg has aliens and Rihanna and supermodel Brooklyn Decker - the latter two should at least be pleasant distractions from the first, a real waste of this opportunity - and now it has Liam Neeson, whose career has really been in high gear since Taken was released.

First Look: Rihanna On the Set of 'Battleship'

Looks like they're filming Battleship already. Either that or Rihanna's new music video will look suspiciously like Peter Berg's new board game hijacking/alien invasion flick. Here she is on the set in Louisiana, courtesy - not surprisingly - of RihannaPhotos.org.

As you can see, she's in the Navy, an experience The Village People touted 30-odd years ago, albeit for different reasons. And yes, if you're new to all of this, director Peter Berg, who is an avowed Naval history buff, is taking Battleship the board game and turning it into an aquatic Independence Day. It's hard not to ridicule the concept because it just seems to be two ill-fitting pieces. I'm certain we'll get emphatic dialogue like "But 75% of the Earth's surface is water!" and "Don't you realize what could happen if they infect the water!?!", which would segue into an environmental message. Think about it: A closing credits shot featuring the filthy North Pacific gyre. Powerful stuff -- we are the invaders, and we don't even know it! More Rihanna:
