Jackson Talks "Fairy-Tail" Tone in 'The Hobbit'

Back when I wrote about the new much-loved The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey trailer, one of my main worries was the the tone of the film.  I pointed out that The Hobbit is less epic and much more light-hearted than Lord of the Rings trilogy, and hoped that director Peter Jackson would understand that.  Well, my hopes  seem to have been answered, according to an interview with Jackson and producer/wife Fran Walsh had with Total Film, discussing the tone they are aiming for with the two Hobbit films.

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' Trailer Proves Peter Jackson Still Has It

To be honest, I wasn't as exited about the upcoming Hobbit movies as others were.  The Lord of the Rings trilogy was a masterful fantasy epic, but something didn't feel right about giving The Hobbit the same treatment.  It takes place in the same world, but has a wildly different style than the beloved trilogy, and I was worried that Peter Jackson would try to make it more epic then it should be.  Does the newly released trailer end my skepticism?  No, but it does a very good job of lowering it.

Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson Discuss 'Tintin' in Video Interview

I don't usually get all that jazzed to see an animated movie, though will absolutely throw that trend out the window to see the new Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson collaboration, The Adventures of Tintin.  Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) were also involved in this landmark production by writing the script.

I didn't know much about this movie, which is why I thought showing an interview with Spielberg and Jackson about the origin of Tintin would be interesting.

Sorry, Fanboys: Jackson Nixes 'Hobbit' for Comic Con

For those expecting a showing from the team behind Peter Jackson’s oft-delayed Hobbit films at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the man himself has taken to the web to disappoint you.  Then again, Jackson, in his Facebook missive, goes to lengths to prove that the real disappointment would be in seeing how little progress has been make on the Tolkien epic thus far.

Possible fan reaction to unfinished "Hobbit" footage. Jackson looks worried. Or hungry.

Check Out a Pic of Three Dwarves from Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit'
