A Sprinkle Of Funny And A Dash Of Action In 'Johnny English: Reborn' Trailer

  The year of the sequels continues as the first trailer for Johnny English Reborn emerges online, the sequel to 2003s critically panned spy spoof.  I remember bits and pieces of the first Johnny English when I went to go see it with my summer camp eight years ago.  

Where's my Teddy?

 The movie had something to do with the Pope but can you really blame me?  Johnny English wasn’t memorable.  It's not like it didn't have its moments because it did; it just didn't stick with me like other movies have.

New Trailer for Dark Comedy 'Salvation Boulevard'

I got mad respect for the incredible acting range of Pierce Brosnan, who once again makes the flawless transition to a comedic role in Salvation Boulevard.  In the new trailer, we get a chance to see Brosnan play a larger-than-life preacher, who frames a born-again Christian, played by Greg Kinnear of murdering his biggest religion-based rival. 

A pair of lovelies in Jennifer Connelly and Marissa Tomei co-star, along with hilarious comedian Jim Gaffigan and Ed Harris.

Still Not Much Movement on 'Thomas Crown 2'

We've talked at length about the trouble for The Hobbit and the next James Bond movie as a result of MGM's mountain of debt. But there are other movies that can't move forward without some clarity there, either. Remakes of Poltergeist and RoboCop are stuck in neutral and Pierce Brosnan's sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair is stalled, as well.

The Thomas Crown Affair 2 is actually a sequel to a remake that is also a remake of another film. That might be the first time that's happened. The story this time is based around the 1964 heist movie Topkapi, but when in the world will it happen? Angelina Jolie was rumored for the Rene Russo role, but she'll probably be too expensive by the time this gets off the ground. However, director Paul Verhoeven has moved on, casting further doubt on whether or not the sequel will even happen. “No, I am not [directing the film] anymore," Verheoven told MTV. "Things happened there, the regime changed. The initial ideas that they had about Thomas Crown 2 were interesting, I thought. There was a script written by two young writers that used the fact that now we’re living 15, 20 years later.”

UK Poster for Roman Polanski's 'Ghost Writer'

Over the weekend, Roman Polanski picked up a Best Director award at the Berlin Film Festival for The Ghost Writer. "Wait," you're saying, "the Nic Cage thing with the flamin' skull?" No. Not that. It's a political thriller based on the book The Ghost by Robert Harris, which explains the title change on the UK quad below.

Poster courtesy of IMP Awards Some say Polanski's Golden Bear win has as much to do with the industry supporting him against the 30-year-old charges of sex with a minor that recently saw the director incarcerated. The case has still yet to be decided. I hope that's not it. First of all: Pick something else to support. It's always smart to keep a little distance from a guy convicted of a sex crime, and that's good advice generally. Secondly: If someone else did a better job, please reward them instead.

Impressive Trailer for Polanski's 'The Ghost Writer'

So much has been written in the past few months about Roman Polanski's personal issues, we tend to forget that he has a new film out this year. And I've got news for you: The Ghost Writer looks really good.

The new international trailer reveals quite a bit about the mood of Polanski's new thriller, and it roped me in pretty early. Excellent choice of music, the clips reveal enough to get you thinking about everything a little longer without giving away very much. No wonder Summit can't wait to get this in theaters (where it will arrive on February 19th). It won't do huge business, but there's always room for a good, artistic movie right after the awards season swell dies down. Pierce Brosnan plays a former British prime minister, and Ewan McGregor is the writer assigned to his memoirs. But there are skeletons in the PM's past...and maybe in his future.
