Johnny Depp and 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' is Pretty Much a Done Deal

Can Johnny Depp manage to balance all of his film projects?

Surprise, surprise, there will be another Pirates of The Caribbean movie.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the highest average box office gross franchise of all time is getting a sequel.  Although there are rumors that Johnny Depp wants to retire his captain's hat, there is no way Disney will let him go.  I mean sure, he has the freedom to choose but given that On Stranger Tides grossed over $1 billion worldwide, Disney should be willing to pay a couple truckloads of movie to have Johnny Depp back.  Pirates just isn't the same without him, nor is there anyone I can think of who can fill his shoes.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Top Ten Movie of All-Time?

In terms of quality?  Probably not.  But with $956.7 million in worldwide box office sales, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a top 10 movie of all time.  It recently passed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which earned $954.5 million.  Who is #9 on the list?  Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End with $963.4 which it should have no trouble passing.  By now, Disney must be "yo ho hoing" to the bank!

Not suprisingly, the key to top 10 standings is international sales and this one didn't disappoint in that regard either, with 76.8% coming from international sales.

Movie Review - 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Starring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush Directed by Rob Marshall Rated PG-13

Jack Sparrow (reprised by the one and only Johnny Depp) finds himself once again maneuvering through harried situations, leaping off an alarming amount of cliffs and walks around as if he were stuck on a trip he wasn't particularly interested to begin with. Sure Jack can muster all the one-liners he likes, but the message is clear: We've come to expect the unexpected, regardless if it makes any sense. Thankfully, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is self-contained in this rather dull installment of searching for the mythical Fountain of Youth and doesn't make a mess by keeping its story simple and straightforward, unlike previous installments.

What's even more alarming is that in the hands of Rob Marshall, On Stranger Tides fails in strange hands. The film plods away with unimaginative direction by Rob Marshall. He tries inserting a quaint scene between Angelica and Jack, as they try to dance sultrily to a non-existent chemistry between the two. The newest addition to the Pirates franchise is Angelica (Penélope Cruz), love-scorned by Jack, she brings him along to the fountain of youth because she does (or still doesn't) love Jack. No matter how hard the film tries convincing us that Angelica and Jack have this undeniable chemistry, they fall into this routine oddly resembling an old bickering couple.

The rapidly approaching May 20th, 2011 release date for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has sent Walt Disney out on a promotional spree. Recently released by Walt Disney Pictures showcases many of the franchise iconic leads in Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Barbosa (Georffrey Rush) but, we get to see some newbies with Blackbeard (Ian McShane) and Angelica (Penelope Cruz). Sick of Playing Pirates? 'Pirates 5' Script is Ready, But Johnny Depp Isn't

Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ hasn't been released yet, but apparently fans can’t wait for the next movie.

Terry Rossio has finished the script for Jack Sparrow’s next adventure.

Rossio told The Hollywood Reporter that the "untitled script" was delivered to Disney this past weekend. This is the first script he’s written without Ted Elliot, who was involved in the first four ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ scripts, Disney’s most profitable film franchise.
