'Wall-E' Goes Retro Cool with New Eric Tan Posters

For the past six months or so, my desktop wallpaper has been this terrific retro poster of X-Men created by artist Eric Tan. I have seen no reason to change it. Although...I'm tempted by his newest works.

I owe Peter Sciretta at \film a debt of gratitude for writing about these posters earlier in the day, and indeed, I'll leave it to him to share about two dozen Eric Tan posters covering the past three Pixar films, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Wall-E, which comes out on Friday. For our purposes, though, we'll run with the four new Wall-E posters and they're just as brilliant as it gets. I first came into contact with Eric's work when I received a handful of Incredibles postcards, although I didn't know their origin at the time. Uwe Boll's 'Postal' Pulled from Nearly 1,500 Theaters Next Weekend

For those of you hoping to buck the trend of seeing Indiana Jones next weekend in favor of more prurient pursuits at the multiplex, your options have just become more limited. Cinema Blend is reporting that Uwe Boll's long "awaited" post-9/11 spoof Postal will do what all Uwe Boll movies do: Fail to generate much of an audience.

Not very long ago, Boll could be heard boasting about going up against of the cinema's most beloved franchises in Uwe vs. Goliath fashion. However, Postal will no longer open in 1,500 theaters in America next weekend, but only four.In a statement released on Friday, Boll claims, "Theatrical distributors are boycotting Postal because of its political content,” adding, “we were prepared to open on 1500 screens all across America on May 23rd. Any multiplex in the U.S. should have space for us, but they're afraid.” I won't argue that exhibitors may not want Boll's message in their theaters. But let's nip any talk of a First Amendment issue in the bud right now. If you're charging admission, you can show whatever you think will make the most money. That's just bidness right there.

New Poster for Uwe Boll's 'Postal' May Be Worse Than the Movie

How much punishment can Uwe Boll take? The world's worst director - with apologies to Brian Robbins - now has an online petition dedicated to stopping his career. They're trying to amass a million signatures, at which point, Boll half-jokingly insisted he would leave the business. And now there's even a gum company involved, saying they'll give away a free pack to anyone who signs up.

Boll probably believes this is all good publicity. But it's not. And the reason it's not is despite the fact that more people are aware of him than will ever see his films, he's not exactly generating converts whenever he opens his mouth. And we can write about him all day every day, and the only thing that will happen is more people will laugh at the village idiot. But they won't pay to see his act.

His new film, something like the 42nd video game adaptation he's made, is called Postal. It's kind of a post-9/11 world spoof. That's a tough sell, even more difficult I would think than In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, the box office prowess of which even Speed Racer can mock. The $60 million epic made $4 million, meaning roughly half as many people saw his most mainstream film in years than will probably sign a petition demanding he find a new line of work. Postal won't make money, either, one suspects, although it cost about a third as much as In the Name of the King. For one thing, it looks to the mainstream eye like it's extremely insensitive. Even sensitive discussions of this subject matter fail miserably. For another, well, I'll just quote from an IMDB comment on the film:

"This is Uwe Boll's best film to date. That being said, it's still crap. Abundant plot holes, crudely forced shock tactics, a shallow attempt at satire, and the worst director in the entire world are just the tip of the iceberg on why this movie blows. I hate Boll's work. I hate his belligerence. He should not be allowed near a camera."

And with that, here's the final poster for Postal, which is due in theaters on May 23rd.

And just one more not to leave you with, again from IMDB. The keywords for this film are "defecation scene, flour, boobs, hit in crotch, sucide bombing." I think that sums it up beautifully.

Awesome: Uwe Boll Sues Billy Zane

Uwe Boll, a favorite target of anyone with a movie website, has made more news this year than ever. He's never been able to spin his silly headlines into ticket sales for his movies - his latest, In the Name of the King, was a total failure, only generating $4 million on a $60 million budget - but people sure seem to know his name and revel in his most recent controversy. Of course, how a movie co-starring Burt Reynolds as a character named King Konreid was a flop is beyond me.

Well now, Uwe Boll is taking a suggestion from Huey Lewis and the News. He's going back in time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boll has sued actor Billy Zane in Los Angeles Superior Court over roughly three-quarters-of-a-million dollars in revenues from Bloodrayne.

Uwe Boll Responds to Online Petition for His Head, Pushes 'Postal' the Old Fashioned Way

I'm not alone in believing that Uwe Boll is the worst director alive. Recently, an online petition called for people to sign their names in an effort to get Uwe Boll to stop making movies. Boll replied in jest that it would take a million people to force him out.

Here, the man responsible for the Bloodrayne movies and many, many others that are much worse (if you can believe it) responds to the call to have him quit once and for all.


Good times. Y'know, Uwe Boll is the only genius. Of what, we have no idea.
