A Little New Footage in the Latest 'Grown Ups' Trailer

Earlier today, we showed you a trailer for Knight and Day that looked really similar to the stuff we'd already seen. Now it's time for the other June 25th movie, Grown Ups, with Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and the miserable Rob Schneider. This also looks familiar, until the last 30 seconds or so.

Salma Hayek's getting some play in the latest version, playing the wife Adam Sandler could never get in real life if he weren't famous. Which is less believable, Hayek or Beckinsale? Probably Beckinsale, and I hope casting Eva Mendes as Will Ferrell's wife in The Other Guys is a good-natured dig at this sort of thing. So if you've seen these trailers before, I'm sorry only 30 seconds of it is new in any way, but the last snippet is probably going to get a few people to buy tickets. You know, because jokes about urine and feces never, ever get old.

Embarrasing Photos Surface in 'Grown Ups' Poster

The trailer for Adam Sandler's buddy comedy, Grown Ups, was not terribly funny. Actually, amusing might be a stretch. But they referenced the photos in this poster and this is probably the best possible sales tool for the movie. I don't think it's going to generate a lot of conversions, at least by Sandler's usual standards, but it's in a wide open slot for a comedy next summer, so it could be bigger than we think.
Click to Enlarge I'm not so sure giving Spade and Schneider lots of screen time is a good idea; it never has been before. But on top of the usual Sandler crowd, which is dwindling a bit, this should sucker some Tommy Boy fans in and, you know, probably Schneider's family or something. I don't love the poster, but it's a smart play. Let's see if it pays off next June.

Trailer - Sandler and Company in 'Grown Ups'

Grown Ups is the movie that Adam Sandler made so that all his good friends can buy an extra house. I guess Chris Rock and Kevin James probably don't need the help, but Rob Schneider has gone nowhere fast (or maybe not so fast), and David Spade's one trick seems to have run its course, too, unless you're a really big fan of tacky DirecTV commercials.

About a year ago, you'd think this would be a can't-miss prospect, just because of Sandler's track record and the small interest generated by re-teaming all these Saturday Night Live alumni, but he's returning about $50 million less per movie than he did with The Longest Yard back in 2005. And that's just the "Sandler movies," for which this one clearly qualifies. So can he turn it around and score a massive hit, or are the slowly eroding returns a sign of something? We'll find out next summer, but it only has about five days to itself at the end of June and then a tidal wave of new releases hits. So it better open big.

Salma Hayek Joins Adam Sandler Comedy

My mind does not immediately go to comedy when I think of Salma Hayek. In my defense, that's usually because of what she's wearing. But Salma will play Adam Sandler's wife in that new comedy for Columbia, for which Sandler has recruited Kevin James and all his old SNL buddies who can't make a hit movie on their own.

There's no title yet, but think Happy Madison Presents The Big Chill; the film will follow five best friends from high school who reunite over a holiday weekend. The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Maya Rudolph and Colin Quinn will factor in somehow, and - surprise, surprise - Dennis Dugan will direct. Hayek has dabbled more in comedic roles lately. She's had guest spots on Ugly Betty, of which she is an executive producer, and she has had an extended run on 30 Rock. However, playing Sandler's wife? He's becoming the new Woody Allen. In the past three years, Paz Vega, Kate Beckinsale, Keri Russell, Jessica Biel, and now Salma Hayek have all thrown themselves at Opera Man.

Sandler Reunites with Rock, Spade, Schneider, and James

This will be an instant hit. Will it be any good? The recent track record says otherwise.

Adam Sandler has written a new buddy movie that will co-star Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Variety says it's about five high school friends who reunite 30 years later for a Fourth of July weekend. So, you know, The Big Chill minus Glenn Close crying in the shower. Although, now that I think about it, this movie would get bonus points just for throwing that in there out of the blue. There's no title yet, however, I believe What? Really? Rob Schneider? Why? is still available. We do know that Dennis Dugan, Adam Sandler's preferred director, is on board, as well, and that it will shoot this summer.
