'How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack' Movie Coming from Robert Zemeckis

Finally someone in the movie biz will bring the wildly popular garden gnomes to life for a silver screen adventure.  Director Robert Zemeckis, whose created light-hearted animated movies with The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol, may go considerably darker for his next semi-animated feature.  

Deadline reports, Zemeckis is producing a film adaptation of Chuck Sambuchino’s "How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack" for Sony, and has just hired writers Chad Damiani and JP Lavin to pen the script for this live-action story (though the gnomes will be animated).

Robert Zemeckis & Denzel to Take 'Flight'; 'Replay' is Grounded

Must be difficult for a director to settle on just a single script from a pile of promising ones.  Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis, after considering many projects has opted to take on Flight with Denzel Washington (also an Oscar winner) attached to star, Deadline reported yesterday.

As a result of this decision, Zemeckis had to drop the time travel thriller Replay, which I hope lands in the hands of another director.  Now back to Flight.

Robert Zemeckis & Tom Hanks to Reunite for 'Major Matt Mason'

The tandem that changed cinema forever with ground breaking hits in The Polar Express and Best Picture winner Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks could be jumping back on the saddle together soon to make the 3-D space adventure Major Matt Mason, THR reports.  The director is currently in talks to helm the film that was inspired by Mattel's 1960s action figures.

Zemeckis has been overly eager to get cracking on his next project, as the director has been linked to other potential projects (How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack, Replay and Dark Falls) before he decided Major Matt Wilson was the best fit.

Robert Zemeckis to Direct 'Replay' Before He Takes 'Flight'

The now legendary director who brought us such iconic films like the Back to the Future trilogy, Best Picture winner Forest Gump and the animated hit The Polar Express  currently has an interesting new film lined up as his next project.  Vulture reports that Robert Zemeckis is now in serious talks with Warner Bros. to helm a movie called Replay, which is based on a 1987 best-selling novel by Ken Grimwood. 

Replay is a story that centers on a radio journalist who dies in 1988 from a heart attack, and somehow re-awakens as his 18-year-old self in 1963 with all of his memories and experiences from his past life still in his mind.

Warner Brothers Goes to See the 'Wizard of Oz'

Are you tired of seeing remakes and reboots?  No? Well good, because Deadline Hollywood reports that Warner Brothers has greenlit the remake of the 1939 classic, Wizard of Oz.  The film will be adapted from the original script.

Robert Zemeckis was approached to direct the film but has subsequently turned it down as he is currently working on a Yellow Submarine among other projects.  The interesting thing in all this is that Disney is also planning to make a Wizard of Oz prequel called, Oz, the Great and Powerful.  Sam Raimi will direct the film.
