'Immortals' Director Wants to Do a Samurai Jack Movie

India-born director Tarsem Singh is probably on cloud nine right now, as its been reported that his stylized ancient Greek war film Immortals has opened first against the the newest Adam Sandler "comedy" and the surprisingly good Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots.  I imagine that his options for what to do in the future have been broadened quite a bit, and certain comments he's made towards The Hollywood Reporter tells us that this future might include a live action version of Samurai Jack, a Cartoon Network hit that ran from 2001-2004.

J.J. Abrams Producing 'Samurai Jack' Movie

Maybe I missed this before or maybe it's new information, but did you know that J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot are co-producing the feature film version of Samurai Jack? Apparently, that's the skinny from Frederator Films: Abrams has the project lined up at Paramount, which should be good news for fans of animator Genndy Tartakovsky.

As for when this thing might be ready for public consumption...don't get your hopes up for a while. Progress is being described as "glacial," which might be a great adjective for a wintergreen gum ad campaign, but it's not terribly promising in moviedom. Tartakovsky is still writing the script, and then there's the painstaking animation process to follow.
