Shane Black May Take Over 'Iron Man 3'

Couple of weeks back Jon Favreau dropped the bomb that he will not direct Iron Man 3.  Given that the first two was wildly entertaining, this was a huge disappointment to fans.  Since then, Marvel has been scrambling to find another director who can fill Favreau's big shoes.

Heat Vision reports, that man may be Shane Black best known for the writer for the Lethal Weapon series.

Shane Black Directing New 'Doc Savage' Flick

There's been a Shane Black sighting, and you know what that means: It's time for another gratuitous plug for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the sublimely entertaining mod-noir that, if it had been released two years later, would have benefited from Downeymania. It's a great damn movie that Black (Lethal Weapon) wrote and directed. Check it out.

This time, though, it's about a much larger project. Variety says that Black will direct and co-write development hell escapee Doc Savage. Doc has been around for over half a century in various forms. I remember the 1970s show, but only because my brother had a Doc Savage puzzle. This one, in fact. I should clarify the point about Black's involvement. He's co-writing with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, although several months ago, maybe a year, Black was just working on the script himself. So something's up there. I mean, Shane Black is one of the most competent action writers around.

Shane Black Writing New 'Doc Savage' Movie

Any chance I get, I tell people to watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, written and directed by Shane Black. It's an easier sell now than wehn it came out, thanks to Robert Downey Jr.'s ascendence. Bit it's a great, funny, weird little mystery movie.

Of course, Black is best knows as the writer of Lethal Weapon, and he's hammered out a few other good scripts, too, over the years. Now, Ain't It Cool News says he'll be writing a new version of the classic comic book character Doc Savage. Produced by the team of Orci and Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers), Doc Saveage will not be the complete overhaul a lot of these movies tend to be. In fact, the word is it will be based in the 1930s, much like the comic's origin.
