Sony Gets First Dibs On a Steve Jobs Biopic?

When Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple and Pixar passed away last week after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, the first thing I thought (no joke) was how long before someone in Hollywood wants to cash in on his remarkable story?  The answer is two days, with Sony being the likely beneficiary, according to Deadline.  Though the studio is still in the negotiation phase of acquiring the film rights.

The biopic will be based on the upcoming biography (due out on October 24th) by Time Magazine Managing Editor Walter Isaacson.

Price Of 3D Tickets On The Rise, Sony To Blame?

Depending on where you live, you may pay about $12 dollars (matinee) for a 3D movie ticket, possibly even more.  The extra $3-$5 is a tariff on 3D projectors and the installation for them by the theaters chains.  Understandble.  What you don't have to pay for is for the glasses, which are handed to you right before you walk into the theater.  Well, that may not be the case starting next year.  Sony has announced that starting May 1st, 2012, less than one year away, they will stop paying for the RealD 3D glasses handed to you.

Adam Sandler As Dracula In 'Hotel Transylvania'

Hotel Transylvania, the new animated picture from director Genndy Tartakovsky, who directed episodes for some of the greatest cartoons of my generation such as Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: Clone Wars, has just picked up Adam Sandler to voice the lead of the film.  

The film is about classic monsters, such as Dracula, Frankenstein and his Bride, and the Mummy, hiding out in a hotel in Transylvania because of being made completely irrelevant by technology; sounds pretty hilarious.

"Lens-Gate": Theaters Exhibit 2D Movies Through 3D Lenses

Hmmm... Apparently, theatre chains (AMC, National Amusements and Regal cinemas) aren't switching out the 3D lenses when exhibiting 2D movies. What does that mean? It means that when 3D movie are being screened, they're put through the digital projector which absords a reported 85% of light. Whoa! Well, that doesn't come as a surprise.

Sony Buys 'Zombies vs Robots' Comic Book Adaptation

After my last posting about E.T. 2, you might think this headline is for a fake film as well.  I mean, Zombies vs Robots?  C'mon.  That's not a movie, that's the kick-ball game you see at Comic Con waiting in line for Hall H.  Well, depending on how your mind works, this film is fortunately/unfortunately happening.

Sony has purchased a spec script from video game writer turned big screen writer/director J.T. Petty based on the IDW comic of the same name.  Oh, but this story gets better.  If there was one filmmaker on the planet who would sell his soul (or what little of it he has left) for a chance to be a part of a film entitled Zombies vs Robots, who would you guess that might be?  I'll give you a hint: his name rhymes with Schmichael Schmay.
