In or Out? Justin Lin Back in for 'Terminator 5'?

Judgment day for a fifth Terminator is coming soon, and Fast Five helmer Justin Lin must decide if he wants to be a part of it.  Arnie's probably awaiting a phone call as well, wondering if the franchise he made famous is going to continue.  

Deadline reports it's possible Lin could return to the project, once he wraps up production on the next Fast and Furious vehicle (the reason he withdrew the first time).

Paul Walker May Be Cast in 'Terminator 5'

To be honest, not much can be said about Terminator 5 at this point.  With the hiatus Arnold Schwarzenegger is taking to straighten out his life, everything about this film and the developments surrounding it are speculative.  However, I feel a responsibility to report new rumors about casting so take this with a grain of salt, but it seems that producer Megan Ellison is hinting the project may just move forward with out him.  As she moves forward, she's looking to cast some of the major roles.

It's rumored that Paul Walker will play Kyle Reese who is John Conner's father.

Justin Lin Wants to Give the 'Star Trek' Treatment to the Next 'Terminator'?

Oh Hollywood you never fail to amaze me anymore: Remaking classic films, ill-advised sequels, etc.  

Today Fast Five director Justin Lin might have pulled an all time low, if the reported rumor from WhatsPlaying turns out to be true.  The report has Lin not planning to reboot the Terminator franchise, but to instead take a page out of the Star Trek's book by using younger actors to make a essentially a newer version of Terminator Salvation. 

And while this is only an interpretation of Lin's actual intentions for the film, a younger Kyle Reese was bascially the main plot point of Salvation.

'Terminator' Rights Won By Annapura Pictures

In what was a heated bidding battle between Annapura Pictures and Lionsgate, it's now confirmed that Annapura Pictures outbid Lionsgate for the rights to make the next two Terminator films.  Details have yet to be disclosed but considering Lionsgate's latest bid was at $15 million, I would think it would be in the $16-$18 million range. 

Even at that amount, the struggling franchise is sold for less than half of what Pacificor paid, who in 2010 bought the rights for $29.5 million plus $5 million for each sequel made.  Still, the film comes with a great package of Justin Lin as the director and Robert Cort as the film's producer.  It also looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a major part in the film.

Do You Want To Bid For The Rights to 'Terminator 5'?

If you have $15 million laying around, it might be a good deal.  In fact, at that price it'll sell for roughly half of the $29.5 million hedge fund Pacifcor paid for the rights to the film last year.  Believe it or not, even just couple months ago, the rights to Terminator 5 has been only a fraction of the $15 million expected auction price, but now with Justin Lin directing the film coming off his massive success of Fast Five, and Governator Schwarzenegger coming out of retirement to act, this film is primed to be a blockbuster.
