Four More Going 'On the Road'

All of a sudden, that adaptation of On the Road is zooming forward. We just found out it was happening in April, with the announcement that Garrett Hedlund would star as Jack Kerouac's alter ego Dean Moriarty, and that producer Francis Ford Coppola had hired The Motorcycle Diaries director Walter Salles.

A few other casting announcements flew by and suddenly On the Road was in production. They're already filming, having filled key roles with Amy Adams, Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, and Sam Riley, and now comes news from The Playlist that Alice Braga, Steve Buscemi, Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men, and Terrence Howard have jumped aboard.

Movie Review - 'Fighting'

Fighting Starring Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard Directed by Dito Montiel Rated PG-13

Every now and then, a performance comes along that is so good by comparison to the rest of everything else in the movie that you can't believe it didn't raise the game of the portrayals around it or they didn't dillute the good right out of it completely. Fighting is not a good movie; it's too incomplete for that. But the realization of Terrence Howard is so much fun to watch and so far beyond its surroundings that it either makes his work that much better or the film that much worse. We'll go with the film being that much worse. It's not the first time Howard has done this. Hart's War is not a great film (it's better than Fighting, though) but Howard was clearly outpacing the material. If memory serves, he was better than everything else in Glitter, but we'll just accept that that was bound to happen, anyway. In Fighting, Howard plays Harvey Boarden, a New York City street hustler. He brokers in Broadway tickets in knockoff Rolexes. But the real money is in promoting bareknuckle brawlers in an underground fighting circuit. He takes a shine to Sean McArthur (Channing Tatum), a kid out of nowhere who displays instinctive pugilistic skills when fighting off thieves. Together, Harvey figures, he can make them both incredibly rich.

Terrence Howard On Marvel's "Very Bad Choice"

Calling Marvel's decision to lowball just about everyone involved in the Iron Man franchise "a very bad choice," former Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, Terrence Howard, accused the studio of not keeping its word.

In a new interview at Sci Fi Wire, Howard said, "They didn't honor our contract. They sent everyone out into a field and told them to work and produce a great bounty." "You produce a great bounty, and then when it's all in the storehouse, you are not allowed into the storehouse," added the actor, clearly caught mid-metaphor. He goes on to say that he heard Gwyneth Paltrow was also subject to Marvel's negotiating practices for next year's Iron Man 2, and the cases of Samuel L. Jackson, Mickey Rourke, and director Jon Favreau have been well-documented.

George Lucas Putting Together 'Red Tails' Cast

The next movie endeavor for George Lucas will be his first non-Star Wars/Indiana Jones film since The Radioland Murders, which, it should be duly nuted, is a tornado of mediocrity. That movie is Red Tails, a chronicle of the Tuskegee Airmen during the second world war.

Lucas has written the story, and it has been turned over to John Ridley to make it into a workable screenplay for director Anythony Hemingway (The Wire). Roger Friedman at Fox says that Lucas has his eye on several actors for the film, including Terence Howard, NeYo, Nate Parker, Barry Pepper, and Bryan Cranston, among others. One peculiar note about the cast: Friedman says that a couple African American actors who would make great additions, like Derek Luke, won't be pursued because of their recent appearances in Spike Lee's Miracle at St. Anna.

Trailer - Channing Tatum is 'Fighting'

Going back as far as Bloodsport, I've always thought movies with underground fighting rings that were financed by millionaires - apparently, they're too wealthy to find a thrill any other way - were absolutely hokey. I'm not saying Fighting, starring Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard is anything like Bloodsport, but it sure does appear to have an underground fighting ring and lots of money come in from shady characters. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, because Tatum's been good working with director Dito Montiel before, in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which had a really authentic voice. So maybe Montiel has written a hell of a story underneath the street fighting stuff.
