'The Fighter' Couldn't Possibly Have a Sequel, Could It?

Hopefully, the majority of you out there saw The Fighter when it was in theaters this past holiday season.  If you didn't, you missed out on one the best films of the year. And, if you did, then you don't need me to tell you just how full of heart and packed with powerhouse performances it was.  But what you might not be aware of was that star Mark Wahlberg battled in the depths of development hell for a decade to get this film made.

Now that it has proven a financial success and earned co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo a bunch of shiny new statues, Wahlberg wants to continue the on-screen story of boxer Mickey Ward.  But how exactly?

3 New Clips for 'The Fighter'

To continue on with our Mark Wahlberg news, we have three new clips from The Fighter to show you. I'm glad they're continuing to release footage for this movie. The first trailer made it feel like a Rocky movie, whereas the second trailer really showed more of the struggle these men went through. With these additional clips, they support the second trailer's message, and really drive home how difficult they really had it.

New Trailer for 'The Fighter'

Despite a few "phoned in" performances, and one huge temper tantrum, I'm still a huge fan of Christian Bale. And since it seems Mark Wahlberg is coming into his own, I'm really looking forward to The Fighter. Unfortunately, the trailers have done little to support my excitement.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the first trailer. It showed some good scenes, but it felt largely inspirational, almost like it was another Rocky movie...

On the Set of 'The Fighter' with Wahlberg and Adams

Amy Adams with the take down! That's right: The most pleasant person alive gets in the middle of a cat fight in this clip from The Fighter.

Like most catfights, there's very little real action, and the this video is actually a behind-the-scenes look at filming the clip, which also features Mark Wahlberg - or for these purposes Mahk Wahlbug - and Melissa Leo, an Oscar nominee last year for Frozen River. In fact, of the principal cast, the only non-Academy Award nominee is Christian Bale, and he might be the most singularly talented of the group. He doesn't factor into this video from the set of David O. Russell's bio-pic of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward, but I think you can get a sense for the nature of the people involved: Tough, working class, and they probably won't take much of your shit.
