'The Office' Standout Dwight to Get His Own TV Spin-Off?

THR has confirmed that NBC is looking to develop a Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) led spin-off of The Office, highlighting the generations of Schrutes and their successful beet farm operation.  Why the hell didn't they plan this sooner?  I guess given the The Office's choke hold of dominance on network television it makes sense to wait until now for NBC to unearth their next hit series.

The game plan is to test the concept on an episode of The Office later this season and see how it holds up in the ratings.

B.J. Novak Wants Danny McBride to Replace Michael Scott

There have been a lot of rumors and speculation going around about who will replace Steve Carell next season on The Office. If you've been following this site, you know that Harvey Keitel and Ricky Gervais were two names that were thrown around as possible replacements (though Gervais came forward to debunk the rumor that he was ever in the running).

While no official replacement has yet been named, B.J. Novak, who writes for the show and plays Michael Scott's man-crush Ryan, has his heart set on one particular actor to play the role. Novak recently told the Associated Press that he wants Danny McBride to be the head of Dunder-Mifflin's Scranton branch.

Ricky Gervais Really Not Taking Over 'The Office'

It's common knowledge that Steve Carell is stepping down from The Office after this next season. Seven years is a long time to lead a TV series, especially when you also have a movie or two each year. There's also the consideration that the work gets stale after a while, no matter how great the show once was. So it's hard to knock Carell for getting out.

One rumor had Ricky Gervais replacing him in Scranton. Gervais, of course, is a co-creator of the show, which is a spin-off of the BBC version Gervais co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in. Additionally, a bunch of other Office shows have popped up around the world, including a new one headed to China. So would Gervais come to Dunder Miflin? He replied to the rumors on his blog, and it's pretty clear he has no interest in that at all:

Steve Carell Leaving 'The Office' After Next Season

You know why the news that Steve Carell will bow out of The Office comes as no surprise? Well, partially, it's because next season will be the show's seventh, and when it began, Carell was not a movie star. He had done supporting stuff in Anchorman and Bruce Almighty and The 40-Year-Old Virgin was just about to come out, but who knew what that would do?

So now it's several years on and Carell has worked almost continuously: Evan Almighty, Get Smart, Dan in Real Life, Little Miss Sunshine, Date Night, some animated stuff, and this summer, Despicable Me and Dinner for Schmucks. So I think that's the major string being pulled here. “I think [season] seven will be my last year,” Carell told Entertainment Weekly. “I want to fulfill my contract. I think it’s a good time to move on.”
