Idris Elba Returning for 'Thor 2'

The already confirmed Thor 2 is already putting its ducks in a row.  First Marvel Studios hired a new director in Alan Taylor, having directed some wonderful episodes on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and already having titular character Thor played by a returning Chris Hemsworth.  Now comes word, albeit brief, that Idris Elba will be returning.

'Thor 2' Picks One of The 'Game of Thrones' Directors

On December 9th we reported that two former Game of Thrones directors were circling Thor 2 post-Patty Jenkins departure from the film.  The names Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan were making the rounds, and now Alan Taylor has emerged victorious, according to Deadline.   Of course he did, considering he helmed two more episodes of HBO's breakthrough series than his competition (Minahan).

The majority of Taylor's work has been in TV, so the Thor sequel will provide a tremendous opportunity for the filmmaker.  The big budget sequel is slated for a November 15, 2012 release.

Two 'Game of Thrones' Directors Circling 'Thor 2'

Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) exited the Thor sequel the other day over creative differences giving way to a new directorial search.  I lobbied for a previous candidate for the gig, Brian Kirk  who is known for directing episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones.  Turns out, Marvel has narrowed its search to two directors both of which also directed episodes of Game of Thrones.

Tonight it was reported that Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan are being viewed as possible replacements to helm Thor 2 in wake of Jenkin's departure.

'Thor 2' Director Bolts Project?

Months back, when it was announced that director Patty Jenkins (Monster) was hired to helm the Thor sequel it came as a huge surprise to many.  Jenkins seemed like a very odd choice from the start, so it shouldn't shock anyone that she has reportedly left the highly-anticipated sequel due to creative differences.  Saw that coming!

The studio is currently involved in a mad dash to find a replacement, and despite bailing on the project Jenkins still remains in good graces with the studio and may be offered a future directorial gig.

Juicy Details for 'Thor 2' Revealed By Marvel Studios President

It's an eventful evening for Thor sequel news.  Makes me wish I'd watched the first one already (currently in my Netflix que).  Earlier today it was reported that Marvel was considering director Patty Jenkins (Monster) to helm Thor 2, and now the Prez of Marvel Studios has flapped his gums about major plot details for the sequel.  My own damn fault for having not seen it, I guess.
