Tilda Swinton & Jamie Bell to Join Chris Evans In ‘Snow Piercer’?

 

Korean writer/director Joon-ho Bong (The Host) is coming to Hollywood and is looking to make a big splash with his debut film Snow Piercer.  Last week it was announced that Chris Evans was close to signing on to the project.  Now Variety is reporting that both Tilda Swinton and Jamie Bell are deep in talks to join him.  Shooting is scheduled to begin this March in Praque.  Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) co-wrote the screenplay and is attached as a producer.

New Trailer and Poster for Tilda Swinton's 'I Am Love'

Let's suppose for a minute you're not into the big summer blockbusters. It doesn't mean you have to stop going to the movies for three months. In fact, The Hurt Locker and Moon are two films that immediately jump to mind that were released during the busiest time of the year in 2009, so there are certainly options out there for you, too.

A gorgeous landscape, a highly effective musical accompaniment, and the promise of another great performance by Tilda Swinton...really, if you're looking indie any time of year, that's not a bad way to start. I Am Love premiered at Sundance and has received some lustful reviews, as you'll see in the trailer. It opens on June 18th and you can become a fan of the film for updates and such at its Facebook page.

Tilda Swinton Would Love to Play Conan O'Brien

When we last saw Conan O'Brien, he was joking on his final Tonight Show that HBO might follow up the mid-90s movie The Late Shift, based on Bill Carter's best-seller chronicling Leno vs. Letterman and the battle for Carson's chair. And who would portray Conan in the telepic? None other than androgynous Oscar winner Tilda Swinton.

“I’ve heard about Conan," Swinton told Movieline at Sundance. “I’m so thrilled. I would just be only too happy [to play O'Brien],” the actress added. “Yes, yes, yes, absolutely.”

Watch Eight 'Benjamin Button' Clips

If you've been following the awards season slightly more than casually - and you certainly can here at The Big Picture; it seems we've got a new list of awards at least once a day - then you know that the Best Picture category at the Academy Awards is quickly becoming a three horse race.

Milk, Doubt, and Revolutionary Road are on the outside looking in, though we might see one or two them get nominated for the top prize. That leaves Frost/Nixon, which is in third in our three horse race, Slumdog Millionaire, which is probably slightly out in front, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.We won't go into why each of these films has a chance of winning, but we will take a minute here to share some new fresh clips from Benjamin Button with you. It's an odd story: Benjamin is "born old," and infant with the maladies of old age, and over the next 70 years or so, he ages backwards. When he's in his mid-thirties, he's the age he should be, but otherwise, he looks much older than he is for his age and vice versa. Brad Pitt plays Button, opposite Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, and Tilda Swinton. David Fincher has wanted to make this film for years, so if you're a fan of his, it's probably good to see that it's being so warmly received. The film picked up five Golden Globe nominations last week, and between now and the Oscars on February 22nd, we'll be hearing a lot about this movie, so arm yourself for the discussion:

Score the 'Benjamin Button' Score Online

This is a pretty cool awards season feature: At the official BAFTA For Your Consideration site for Warner Bros., you can listen to the entire original motion picture score for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, composed by Alexandre Desplat.Desplat is a wonderful composer, perhaps not as populist as some of the major names like Hans Zimmer and Thomas Newton Howard, but his music has been featured in everything from Syriana to Girl with the Pearl Earring. And though the movie isn't all that great, one of his best scores to date was in The Painted Veil, starring Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. He has one Oscar nomination to his credit, for The Queen, but given the high profile of Benjamin Button, Desplat might be in line for his second. Of course, you do run the risk of not hearing the music in context if you see it without the visuals, but that's rather a silly argument if the music's really good. I haven't had a chance to absorb the entire score yet, but what I've heard (which I based on the titles of the tunes) I've really enjoyed.The Curious Case of Benjamin Button stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton, and is directed by David Fincher. The film makes its way into heaters on December 25th.
