Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson Discuss 'Tintin' in Video Interview

I don't usually get all that jazzed to see an animated movie, though will absolutely throw that trend out the window to see the new Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson collaboration, The Adventures of Tintin.  Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) were also involved in this landmark production by writing the script.

I didn't know much about this movie, which is why I thought showing an interview with Spielberg and Jackson about the origin of Tintin would be interesting.

New Poster for Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin

It has been a while since Steven Spielberg has directed anything (Indiana Jones and the Kindom of the Chrystal Skull), and even longer since he's directed anything good (Munich).  I could go on and on about Indy, but for now I'd like to focus on his new venture in which he has teamed with Peter Jackson to bring us The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn .  The typical story of a boy and his dog - that gallivant around the world searching for lost treasures.  So, maybe it's not that typical.

Logo Soup: 'M:I 4' 'Tintin,' 'Green Lantern'

Collider happened upon a bunch of new official logos for Paramount's 2011 slate of films, featuring Mission: Impossible IV and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. It's all part of The Licensing International Expo happening next week in Las Vegas.

And Slashfilm has tracked down the new Green Lantern logo, which, as you'll read in the press release below, has as much to do with branding the Mattel toy line as it does the movie. And now you can see why there's such a thing as The Licensing International Expo: These things are big business. As the movie companies become more vertically integrated, it's desirous to move the titles along as many channels owned by that corporation as possible. Paramount, for example, is CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and other cable outlets. Beyond that, because the marketplace is so competitive with merchandising, the studios look for opportunities to brand their film products in a litany of other ways, as you'll read about in the Green Lantern press release. Peter Jackson Discusses 'Tintin' and 'The Hobbit'

In a new interview with the BBC, Peter Jackson expresses no concern about handing over the reins of The Hobbit to Guillermo del Toro, and talks about his own next step as a director, the 3-D animated Tintin. "Tintin is great. It's made," Jackson says of his co-production with fellow celluloid hero Steven Spielberg. "The movie is cut together and now [we] are turning it into a fully-rendered film".

The process of taking the edited footage and transforming it into the Tintin we'll see in theaters should take a little less than two years, meaning Jackson will be inordinately busy in the fall of 2011, talking both that film and The Hobbit, still scheduled for a December release that year. There's a chance it might be delayed - I'm speculating here - because of the thin ice under MGM's feet right now. But Jackson doesn't think bringing in a new director, even one who's stylistically different like del Toro, is any big departure. "We're writing the screenplays with him, so in terms of the script, there is continuity," he said. "We're writing Ian McKellen's dialogue just the same as we did in Lord Of The Rings. But Guillermo, being the director, will obviously take the script and interpret that and shoot his film. So that'll be interesting to see.
