'Hugo' Producer Unearths Details About 'Tomb Raider' Remake

Ever wonder why she got so popular? I can give you two reasons.

The original Lara Croft: Tomb Raider holds the honorable distinction as the first movie I ever remember falling asleep during.  The characters were bad, the plot was meandering, and (worst of all) the action wasn't exciting.  I never had quite the masochism to sit through the second, but nothing I heard had it pegged as any kind of improvement.  Nonetheless, it seems that the Hollywood machine has decided to give the franchise another go.

Lara Croft Prequel on the Way - Do You Care?

Producer Dan Lin thinks we need a new Lara Croft movie, so what form would that take? A prequel. Yawn.

Lin helped make Terminator Salvation, which is a bit of a dirty word at the moment, but Lin says that formula for success (?) will be the same one he uses to exhume the heroine from her tomb. "I would say it's like Terminator - character-driven action," Lin explained to About.com."I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character."

There Will Be a New Lara Croft, But Not Megan Fox

Over the weekend, a rumor was floating around that Megan Fox would replace Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in a new Tomb Raider film. Though she doesn't now (nor do I think she ever will) have Jolie's acting ability or instincts, you can't say that inked up Megan Fox isn't perceived in some circles as a younger Angelina. It's kind of her niche.

So when io9 spokt to Fox's representation and heard that, "She's not involved in the movie at all," it was kind of a surprise...because they're actually making another Lara Croft movie. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that producer Dan Lin is resurrecting the franchise, moving it from Paramount to Warner Bros. "The new project, claims the trade, "is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures. It will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain."
