The Best Trailers of 2010

You know what they say about first impressions, you only get one.  And, that my friends, is why there are few things in the film industry more powerful than a trailer.  Trailers can make terrible films look incredible (I'm looking at you M. Night) and in the worst of times can cause incredible films to lose an audience (colon, frowny face Scott Pilgrim).

Paramount Used to Buy 'True Grit' Novels to Hype Up Film

 

Call it deceitful or dishonest, but you have to hand it to the marketing arm of Paramount in the 1960's.  In an interview with the New York Times, former Paramount publicity executive Bob Rehme, confesses that he hyped up the 1969 version of True Grit prior to the movie's release by finding out which stores were used to gauge sales for the New York Times Best Seller list and bought boxes of books from those stores.

Movie Review: 'True Grit'

True Grit Starring Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin Directed by Joel & Ethan Coen Rated PG-13

Any movie that is based on a book or that can be considered a remake presents a challenge for a reviewer. There will be those that argue it's too similar or too different than the original (yes, this can also be argued to not be a remake), or this was different from the book, or just about anything. And many of our regular readers know I can be rather outspoken when it comes to remakes, reboots, or a movie based on a book I've read. But, to show my proper respects to both the film and to you, the reader, I will forget this film was based on a book, that there was another movie called True Grit made back in 1969, and write my review based purely on the movie directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen.

And what an impressive movie it was.

True Grit is told from the perspective of Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), a fourteen year-old girl whose father was murdered in cold blood by Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin). She's a clever, headstrong girl who has but one objective; bring Tom Chaney to justice. After learning that Tom has fled and is low on the U.S. Marshall's priority list, she enlists the drunk, ruthless Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to her cause. Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) rides alongside them, as he too is after Tom Chaney for killing a politician. While a rocky, uneasy partnership, the three chase after Tom, who has aligned himself with Lucky Ned Pepper (Barry Pepper) and his gang, who is also an old rival to Rooster.

Three New 'True Grit' TV Spots

It's been a while since we had a decent western flick and the more I see anything about the Coen brothers' True Grit, I can't help but raise my expectations just a little bit more.  The movie simply looks awesome.

A couple days ago, we showed you some character posters (click here for the Gallery Viewer) from the film and today, we have three new TV spots.  The film releases December 22nd and stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin.  The plot is different from the original classic but still seems very intriguing.

New Character Posters for 'True Grit'

The Coen Brother's upcoming 'True Grit' reboot is easily the most anticipated movie of the year.  Today we have new posters from the movie featuring each of the main characters, starting with the one below of the full cast, which comes to us via cinemablend.com.  It shows us the big three and actress Hailee Steinfeld.  You can now view these new posters through the new GTBP Featured Gallery section.

The next character poster features the Abiding Dude himself Jeff Bridges, who plays the lead role of Marshal Reuben J. Cogburn.  Marshal Cogburn helps Mattie Ross (Steinfeld) track down the murderer of her parents.
