Warner Bros. Hands 'Cloverfield' Director 'Twilight Zone'?

Late last month Warner Bros. had a list of filmmakers in mind for the upcoming Twilight Zone reboot with Christopher Nolan at the top.  Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity) and Ruper Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) were also reportedly being considered.  

Now Matt Reeves, who directed Cloverfield and Let Me In has emerged as the front runner for the gig, and talks between the two sides are supposed to begin today.

Christopher Nolan #1 On Warners List for 'Twilight Zone'

It's easy to see why filmmaker Christopher Nolan is atop Warner Bros. list of directors to create a new Twilight Zone feature film, he's reportedly the front-runner by a wide margin.  The genius who breathed new life into the Batman franchise and wowed movie fans with Inception, will certainly be in high-demand once The Dark Knight Rises is in the can.

The Twilight Zone is timeless fiction that could easily translate into the studio's next mega blockbuster, and Nolan's vision would be the ideal fit for it.

New York City 'Twilight Zone' 50th Anniversary Event

This Friday marks the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest shows in the history of television, certainly the program furthest ahead of its own time. And as The Twilight Zone rings in the big five-oh, there are events planned to commemorate the big day and to remember one of the most significant moments in television and science fiction, if not 20th century popular culture.

We've already written about the happenings this weekend at Ithaca College in New York, where series creator Rod Serling taught in his later years and where a massive amount of his work during his most fertile period is collected. Also taking place over the weekend is The Twilight Zone Forever, hosted by scholar and "Twilight Zone geek" Arlen Schumer at The Times Center in New York City. So if you're in New York this Friday, it all starts at 7:30. It's being described as a multimedia visualecture by Mr. Schumer, and will feature screenings of two of the series' seminal installment, Eye of the Beholder and Where is Everybody?, which was Twilight Zone's pilot episode.

Celebrate 50 Years of 'The Twilight Zone' Next Month

We're about a month away from a very cool event at Ithaca College in New York, one that should be of keen interest to fans of science fiction, the history of television, and just damn good writing. The college hosts the Rod Serling Conference, and Serling, of course, created and wrote The Twilight Zone. He also taught at Ithaca from 1967 - 1975.

Naturally, the Rod Serling Archives are also housed at the college, and this year's Conference marks the 50th anniversary of The Twilight Zone, and since Serling wrote well over half of the episodes, it stands to reason that this will be a pretty good collection of all things Serling. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd, and you can get all the specific details at Ithaca College's Serling page. There are about 20 sessions at this year's conference, ranging from adapting The Twilight Zone to the graphic novel format to a discussion of his legendary teleplay Requiem for a Heavyweight (Serling himself was a boxer).

DiCaprio's 'Twilight Zone' Hires a Writer

Last year, Leonardo DiCaprio called dibs on a movie based on the classic sci-fi TV series The Twilight Zone. His Appian Way production shingle has had a way of not following through, however, such as passing up on the live-action Akira adaptation, so I was beginning to wonder about Twilight Zone because we hadn't heard anything in a long, long time.

Enter writer Rand Ravich, who Warner Bros. and DiCaprio have hired to work on the script, according to Variety. That may not be the splashiest name you've heard attached to a high profile project like this, but Ravich seems to be a pretty good choice on paper. In addition to creating the NBC detective show, Life, Ravich wrote The Astronaut's Wife and was an executive producer of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. When the idea of the update was first hatched, it was not supposed to follow the same formula as the doomed 1983 movie and the original show, meaning this won't be an anthology but rather a feature length version of one of the classic episodes.
