'Wanted' Screenwriters Retained for The Sequel

Will Angelina Jolie turn around for Wanted 2?

I'm sure from the closing credits of Angelina Jolie's Wanted, it was easily determined a sequel would follow.  Universal has begun that trek by resigning writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, along with Chris Morgan (though he wasn't mentioned) to pen Wanted 2, Haas tweeted earlier today.

Unfortunately, Twitter only allows 140 characters per tweet, so the message lacks any real concrete details other than the hiring.  Damn you Twitter!

Timur Bekmambetov's 2008 blockbuster made $50.9 million in its first weekend and grossed $341.4 million worldwide.

Taylor Lautner and Michael Bay Shopping Project Together

What if I told you that the most wanted young actor in Hollywood today and the king of the big budget blockbuster wanted to make a movie with you?  Would that be something you might be interested in?  Maybe not for most of this site's readers, but if you're a studio exec your answer is a resounding "HELL YES!"

Mark Millar Claims "Most High Profile Actor of 2010" On Board for 'Superior'

For those of you that don't know, Mark Millar is one of the most influential and cutting edge comic book writers today.  Some of his more noteworthy work includes Kick-Ass, Marvel's Civil War, and Ultimate X-Men.  Another thing you should know about Millar is that he has terrible diarrhea of the mouth.  He tends to release "news" by saying things without thinking and some of which aren't even true.  For example, Kick-Ass 2 has been greenlit or that Wanted 2 is definitely still happening.

Kristen Stewart Not Opposed to 'Wanted 2'

We thought it was an equally good and bad idea to lasso Kristen Stewart for Wanted 2. The good idea is that she might (might) draw a younger audience, siphoning from the biggest teen and young adult franchise last year...at least on opening weekend. The bad is that, when it comes to action movies, she's no Angelina Jolie. Few could hope to be.

But all in all, it sounded like idle gossip; Jolie bolted the project and it was on the rocks, and Stewart's The Runaways was in theaters (not that anybody noticed), and actors and actresses see their names pop up for all sorts of poorly fitting movie roles. Turns out there was more to it than some gossip columnist talking it up. "Would I do it? Yes," Stewart tells Virgin. "Definitely, as long as it was good and I mean, it's really exciting to see that could be an opportunity." That sounds like it's almost a confirmation that someone has approached her to talk about the film.

Rumor Patrol: Stewart Replacing Jolie in 'Wanted 2'?

Was it the terribly underwhelming box office performance of The Runaways that made this seem like a good idea or the fact that when you think action hero, Kristen Stewart's pretty far down on the list? The Most Common Letter in the Alphabet says Bella Swan is rumored to bend the bullet in Wanted 2.

Let's back up: Angelina Jolie backed out of the project a month or so ago. At the time, it was thought to be in favor of Gravity, but that movie hasn't exactly experienced smooth sailing, either. Regardless, Jolie's off Wanted 2, and that was thought to doom the project entirely for a while. But Mark Millar and Timur Bekmambetov are still hoping it happens, and Universal - which needs a hit about as badly as Tre's crackhead neighbor needed a fix in Boyz N the Hood - is probably not ready to give up on one of its few successes in recent years. So, assuming for the moment that all responsible parties don't want the series to be a one-and-done, why Stewart? Ted Casblanca reports that Stewart and Bekmambetov have met on more than one occasion, which could mean anything; he's got lots of projects going on. And frankly, even though Millar hinted that the Jolie character could just have her duties split up among new characters, Kristen Stewart in an action movie seems wholly unbelievable to me.
