...We All Scream For No More Scream

Now I haven't seen Scream 4, because after I watched Sceam 3 I wished I had stopped at Scream 2, which I watched simply because the original Scream was badass.  This movie series started with such class and style, and has just gotten so tired.  I'm still having a hard time grasping the idea of a world with a Scream 5, let alone a Scream 6 which is the ultimate goal of this wrecking train.  Movieline reported that Harvey Weinstein is pretty much expecting the sequel.  The way I understand it is that he sounds excited about it.

Wes Craven Talks 'Scream 4' Script Troubles, Sequels, and a Look at 4 New Images

With the release of Scream 4 officially less than a month away, director Wes Craven has started to open up a little more to press and fans about all things in the franchise. Earlier today on his Twitter page, Craven described the film as "kick ass" and will leave audiences "wanting more".  We can only hope.

As the film went into production, there were a lot of questions and concerns as it was reported the studio had replaced screenwriter Kevin Williamson (who had penned the first two Scream films) with Ehren Kruger (writer of widely panned third Scream). Craven added fuel to the fire when shortly after the news broke he Tweeted from the set "no longer in control of the script".  We hadn't heard much on the issue until recently the director sat down with Total Film magazine to discuss the change in writer, the future of the franchise, and shared 4 new images from the film.

'Scream 4' Synopsis Revealed Via Today's Test Screening

My name is Mike and I'm a Scream-aholic.  Not only am I addicted to the Scream franchise, I am unapologetically addicted to it.  Now, I get made fun of a lot for the fact that the first Scream has found its way onto my favorite films list (I repeat favorite films, not best films) but hey who cares, man.  Unapologetic, remember?

Whether you love the series or hate it, the only thing that really matters is that the first film in a new trilogy, Scream 4, is set for release on April 15.  And, while most of us have been able to guess what the film is about after seeing the first trailer, the official synopsis was revealed this week via the invitation to the first test screening that took place today in Pennsylvania.  I've enclosed the synopsis after the jump to avoid any spoilerific territory here, but the real news is in the test screening.

Movie Review - 'My Soul to Take'

My Soul to Take Starring Max Thieriot and John Magaro Directed by Wes Craven Rated R

In the beginning of My Soul to Take, the Riverton Seven - the seven 16-year-olds who were born in town the same day a serial killer was shot by police and presumed dead - perform their annual ritual at the site where the "Riverton Ripper" was gunned down. The ritual is a symbolic one that involves one of the seven protecting the others by shoving down someone dressed as the Ripper, which according to local legend keeps the serial killer from coming out of the river and murdering them all one by one. Most of the seven don't actually put much stock in this legend, but it's something they've always done, so they go through the motions anyway because it's what's expected of them.

It seems like writer/director Wes Craven actually had a similar disposition when making My Soul to Take. In the month of October, people look for scary movies to take dates to as they gear up for Halloween. We expect Wes Craven to come through for us with a scary movie - it's what he's made a career doing - but this time around, it seems like Craven is simply going through the motions.
