Ron Howard's 'Cheaters' Now 'What You Don't Know'

All things being equal, I prefer the title Cheaters to What You Don't Know. They're the same movie, in different phases. Cheaters is directed by Ron Howard and has a big cast - Vince Vaughn, Winona Ryder, Kevin James, Jennifer Connelly, Queen Latifah, and Channing Tatum - but Universal said the name must go. So now, we're left with the less specific title What You Don't Know. It's still about the same thing, infidelity, but I guess Cheaters doesn't test well. But it's easier, it means more, and it's more memorable, so this may not be the best move.

Winona, Fox Searchlight Join Aronofsky's 'Black Swan'

A few more names have been added to Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, the movie that is becoming more heavily circulated because of a sex scene with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis than its subject matter...which is not that. I forget what it is exactly...Oh wait, yeah, it's about ballerinas and the supernatural.

Winona Ryder, kind of a Portman version 1.0, has joined the cast, and she'll play, shall we say, a much more "seasoned" dancer for Aronofsky. It's hard to say exactly what went wrong with Ryder's career. I'm not convinced she was ever as talented as we all wanted her to be - we just had a real dearth of teenage talent in the 1980s, let's be honest - but the pendulum really swung the other way in the years before her shoplifting conviction and it was a long time after that before people took her seriously again. I give her credit for slowly rebuilding her reputation, though. This should help.

Winona Ryder Talks Up 'Heathers' Sequel

We reported back in March that the 1980s dark comedy classic, Heathers would be hitting the stage soon. Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman has been developing a musical for quite a while, and it might show up regionally as soon as the end of the year, with Broadway being the ultimate goal.

And now, the 20-year talk of a sequel seems to be gaining traction again. Winona Ryder tells Empire that, "Whatever you hear, there is a sequel in the works, I swear to God." Usually, stars aren't that open about sequels that haven't received the green light, so it's interesting that Ryder is so adamant about it. But the filmmakers behind the remake aren't quite so emphatic, according to Winona.

'Heathers': The Musical

When I was a useless teenager, Winona Ryder was the girl for me. And that meant watching Heathers perhaps more often than I should have. A movie with more social importance than quality, really, it is nonetheless one of those essential movies of the 1980s, along with stuff like The Breakfast Club and Back to the Future that didn't just come out in the 80s, but fed back into the mystique of its time.

And now it's becoming a musical. I can't say it's really surprising, given the success of film adaptations on Broadway. But The Hollywood Reporter says that the new Heathers is closer to hitting the stage than you'd think.

New Images from the Sundance Drama, 'The Informers'

One of the more anticipated movies coming up at Sundance this month is The Informers, an adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel, which of course, means this is going to be the hap-hap-happiest movie on Earth.

It's an ensemble piece that stars Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, the lovely Amber Heard, and the late Brad Renfro in what is unfortunately his last movie. The Informers is set against a backdrop of the go-go 1980s in Los Angeles. I'm betting there's more cocaine here than in Michael Irvin's car.
