Retro Poster for 'The Paperboy' Shows an Unhappy John Cusack

Today we can thank the folks at Millennium Films for giving us something to look forward to, courtesy of their retro poster release.  The poster is for the upcoming Lee Daniels directed flick, The Paperboy, and marks Daniels follow-up to his Oscar nominated Precious.  The Paperboy stars Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

Efron fans should be excited to see him step into some serious storytelling and get support from a rock-solid cast.

Trailer To 'Valentines Day' Sequel 'New Year's Eve'

I am ashamed to admit that I did actually enjoy Valentine's Day, but my enjoyment was minuscule; if that could save me from having my man card revoked.  The film wasn’t well received by critics and even GTBP gave it 2 Damn Dirty Apes and I understand why.  Now, a trailer has been released for the sequel, New Year's Eve.

Trailer - Zac Efron's 'Charlie St. Cloud'

I know he's an easy target, but Zac Efron's probably more talented than you are. My first real exposure to him was High School Musical 3, which isn't a great film, but even with the limitations that material provides, it's clear that Efron can sing and dance very well, and his acting's certainly not embarrassing. In Hairspray, he was also acceptable, although that wasn't really his showcase.

He had a better acting performance in 17 Again and was fine in Me and Orson Welles; I think most actors would be overshadowed by Christian McKay in that film, which is entirely the point. So I'll give Efron credit for trying to do new things and not dropping the ball in the process. Is he, you know, the next Daniel Day-Lewis? No. Unless it's a musical. Still, it's not like he's Jessica Simpson or something. Zac's new movie, Charlie St. Cloud, replaces The Adjustment Bureau at the end of July. At least it's not anything like Inception or Salt, which Adjustment would have to deal with; this targets a whole other audience. And it's one of those quasi-supernatural weepers, because melodrama is in season every summer. It does look like Efron the actor will have more to do, though.

Chace Crawford Drops Out of Doomed 'Footloose'

Footloose is another project they should probably just shoot in the head. It's happening with alarming frequency these days, where a film loses so many key pieces or gets delayed and delayed (or in this case, both), and you just wonder why the studios don't just eat their losses instead of incurring new ones.

Back to Footloose: It was originally a Zac Efron vehicle, with his High School Musical director Kenny Ortega at the helm. Efron bounced about a year ago, and Chace Crawford stepped in. Then Michael Jackson died, so Ortega had to hurriedly finish his documentary, This Is It. After rushing to get that done, Ortega begged off the project and was replaced by Hustle & Flow's Craig Brewer, which is not exactly the same thing. He also re-wrote the script, which caused more delays, and now Chace Crawford has quit the film, as well. So, in roughly a year, the film has a new script, new star who wasn't nearly as big a star, a new director, and a delayed production and release schedule. Now they have to start over again.

The Most Mistake-Filled Movies of the Year

There are almost always a few mistakes in movies, and even if we spot them, we almost always forgive the little ones. But Movie Mistakes keeps track of this sort of thing, and some of the biggest movies of the year have way too many errors to ignore. In fact, seven of the year's top 20 box office hits are also seven of the ten movies with the most technical mistakes.

17 Again led the way in black eyes, with 94 errors in 102 minutes, so take the trailers out of the equation, and that's about one gaffe per minute. Well done. The year's top two earners tied for second on the Movie Mistakes list, with Transformers and Harry Potter both committing 71 fouls. Seriously, with budgets as big as that, there are almost six dozen errors? For shame...
