Funny New Trailer for 'The Hangover'

If I read the ad on Variety correctly, Bradley Cooper was named ShoWest Comedy Star of the Year, which...uh...really? Anybody else surprised by that?

Cooper does have three comedies in theaters this year, with the previously released He's Just Not That Into You joining All About Steve and The Hangover. We've seen a trailer for All About Steve, which co-stars Sandra Bullock, but what's The Hangover? This is. It's a bachelor-party-gone-wrong comedy that co-stars Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, a baby, and Justin Bartha, who apparently gets lost somewhere along the way. It's directed by Todd Phillips (Old School), and the dudes throwing the bachelor party for their friend have to piece together the previous night and track down the groom in time for his wedding.

Hot Poster for Soderbergh's 'Girlfriend Experience'

Steven Soderbergh's next film is kind of the anti-Che. In contrast to his sprawling, four-hour look at the life of Che Guevara, The Girlfriend Experience was made in about three weeks, with a cast primarily of amateur actors.

But the spotlight is shining on Sasha Grey, a porn star Soderbergh cast as a $10,000-a-night call girl at an existential crossroads. Or something like that. New York Magazine premiered the poster earlier today, and it features Grey and a pretty good design:

'Lost,' 'Entourage,' 'SNL' Among Peabody Winners

The Peabody Awards were announced tonight, and Lost was among the big winners. This isn't the Emmys or the People's Choice Awards; the Peabodys are the oldest, most prestigious honor in electronic media, recognizing "distinguished achievement and meritorious public service by TV and radio stations, networks, producing organizations, individuals and the World Wide Web."

Among the winners this year is Lost, which the Peabody praises as having rewritten the rules of television fiction by "breezily mixing metaphysics, quantum physics, romance and cliffhanger action." The first two seasons of Lost are pretty remarkable television, and the best example of what the Peabodys are talking about. After a lull in the third season, Lost began to slowly find its groove again in the middle of last season and is firing on most cylinders so far this year.

Upset Buyers Get "Rental" Copy of 'Slumdog' DVD

A few weeks ago, Fox announced that it would remove special features from its rental versions of new DVDs. One would suppose that's a profit margin move - save the good stuff for people willing to shell out $20 - $30 to buy the whole thing. Kind of a chincy move, but it makes a certain amount of sense. After all, if you rent two or three movies in one weekend, most people won't dig through the bonus material on the second disc. But it didn't take long for the new plan to backfire. Thousands of people who bought the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire instead received the rental version, meaning they got none of the special features they paid for. Oops. Amazon was so besieged with complaints that it posted the following message online:

"We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs. Fox has set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for those consumers who may have purchased a version that does not contain special features. Upon calling the hotline, these consumers will be able to have their disc replaced for one containing special features. Fox regrets any inconvenience this has caused."

So it's just a hiccup, but an embarrassing first step in Fox's new home video direction.

'Midgets vs. Mascots' Trailer As Bad As You'd Think

I don't know if the Tribeca Film Festival has a slogan, but I'd like to recommend "Dignity First." You see, as part of the event, the mockumentary Midgets vs. Mascots will premiere, ushering in a new standard for filmmakers everywhere.

Don't take my word for it; here are some actual comments from actual YouTube users: "GARY COLEMAN!?!?! awesome stuff, can't wait to see it."..."saw the test screening...it is borat meets jackass, maybe better!"..."NOTHIN' FUNNIER THAN MIDGETS!"..."A taco riding a mechanical bull? -- EXCELLENT!" It is all of those things and more. Yes, Gary Coleman plays himself...but so does Ron Jeremy. Of course, who else would Ron Jeremy play at this point, aside from Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy?
